Coondog Superstitions

Post some coondog superstitions you have or you have heard of.

I seen on other threads about peeing in a dogs food will make it come to you, crunchin up a beetle and putting it in a dogs food will make it stay hooked on the tree, black in the mouth, and superstitions about the runt of the litter... ECT.

Never tried the peeing on the dog good but tried it on my exwife to see if it would make her follow me in the mall and not drift on into a store. It did sort of work...........got served my divorce summons.

2. a bluetick with fat under his neck is a good sign
3. skinny snout means fox dog
4. overbite means fox dog
5. curl up tail means mean dog
6. blanket back means good dog on a walker dog
7. a dog that chops on track is fast.
8. light colored blue on a bluetick is not a good sign

thin tail, good dog
Put vasoline up a dogs butt, it can't bark because it can't get any traction to force air out it's throat

Some complete morons believe that the longer the ears, the better it can track. Also, I've heard some idiots say that the longer an ear, the cooler the dog will be hahaha...oh those crazy superstitions!

some of you old timers may have to help me with this one. you boil the bark of a tree in a turtle shell, then feed your pup out of the shell. the turtle shell will give the pup the determination he needs and the tree bark will make him tree. I think that is the way it goes.
also a pup that has an crown or knot on the top of his head will be a tree dog.

Posted by coonernc on 07-29-2009 01:23 PM:

i have always heard that when pickin a pup (knot on head tree dog)

I actually seen this done. Old Hunter I used to hunt with took the pee bag out of a coon and poured the pee down the dogs nose, he said "that dog won't run nothin, but a coon,........you wanna do yours?......nah I believe I'll pass."

old timers

always said,

The longer the ears the colder the nose, the longer he bawls the slower he goes...

I have def heard alot of those mentioned and of course a few are new to me lol......but due to a previouse dog i owned i will never own another black headed walker. that dog had the worst dispostion of any hound i have ever seen. she was plain hateful.

now i know they aint all that way , but she def turned me away from them, cause they remind me of her.
