Razor

We have 28 breedings put up on the number one reproducing redbone sire of all time. It is not for sale to the general public. Razor will be performance sired in the coming years. Rob and I will be using this seamen for personal use in order for us to be able to hunt Razor pups the rest of our lives. These Razor pups are everything that I look for in a hound. I have a stressful job, and coon hunting is my stress reliever. These Razor pups do not give you constant headaches. I do not have issues with off game, slick treeing, and dogs not hunting or handling. I would reccomend anybody interested in a Razor pup, to order an offspring report and call some people to see if they would sell one. On that note, congratulations to Razor and Rob for finishing yet another Razor NITECH last weekend. Razor has the most hunt titled offspring off of any redbone. Thanks for reading.

Thank you,
Chris

Rick,

Razor now has 34 NITECHs and GRNITECHs. That means he has passed Ace by two and counting for the number one reproducing redbone sire of all time.

Razor Pups

Razor pups will only be sold to very select competition homes. Generally competiton hunters hunt all year long and pleasure hunters hunt during season. We will make sure Razor's next 100 pups make their way to hard competition hunting homes in the years to come. Razor's first 100 pups were virtually unheard of because they were sold to pet/pleasure hunting homes. Their will only be a very select number of pups at a time.

X is the best dog I have been in the woods with at his age. He is a coonhound deluxe. I think that about sums it up.

Thanks,
Chris

Our home number is 937-839-0051 but it's generally easier to catch Rob on his cell @ 937-336-1997.

As Chris mentioned above, Razor's semen is not readily available to the general public. However, we will consider select females by private treaty. You would have to call Rob to discuss that. We will be performancing Razor for sure for 2013 and I would suspect at least every other year from there on.

For those that never got to hunt with Razor, here's what Rob would like you to know about him:

"I've been hunting for 33 years and to walk and hunt behind a dog like Razor is a chance of a lifetime. He was a non-stop hunter that gave his all to find a coon quick, would strike with a squawl and chop, would get treed with one loud, piercing, yodel locate, and was about an 80 bpm tree dog. You could hear his ringing voice a mile away. He was a dog that would not pull minus, was very accurate, and you could put him on the scorecard for 2nd strike, 1st tree. Razor took pride in getting first tree or would just split. He pulled a lot of dogs to him with his dominate tree power.

Razor was bought for a hide dog because that is my first love, but we quickly saw that he was a dog that could dominate in the hunts, and felt we owed it to him and the breed to put him in competition.

He had 10 straight cast wins with Alton & then another 11 straight cast wins with me. He won National Redbone Days Best Overall Dog of Hunt and Purina Outstanding Redbone of the Year. All of his wins towards GRNITECH were at major events. I never hunted him at local events.

From the age of 2 to 5- he was hunted about 300 nights per year. To have the ability to reproduce as well was the icing on the cake."

Razor has proven his reproducing ability in all venues... to date, here are his stats:

He had 335 pups- of those, he current has:

30 NTCHs, 4 GRNITECHs, 40 CHs, 39 GRCHs, 2 CCH, 3 FCHs, 2 GRFCH, 4 GRWCHs.

There are still several with wins or still in being put into competition.

As Chris mentioned, there will always be Razor pups out there- at least for our lifetime. You'll see the next batch of babies in 2013.

Also- regarding the comment that Chris made above regarding Razor's first 100 pups... let us clarify....

Rob and I have NEVER EVER catered to the pet market and we never will. Razor's 1st 100 pups were born in 2000-2002-- mostly while we were campaigning Razor. During that time, we were a one income family raising 5 small children. Money was extremely tight and Rob had always been a hide hunter at heart. We were not as diligent about where Razor's puppies were going or about who was breeding to Razor (so had no control over where those pups went), in part because we couldn't afford to be, in part because Rob just wanted the pups to be hunted- it didn't matter to us if they were pleasure hunted, competition hunted, or bear/ cat hunted, and in part because we had no idea what kind of reproducer we had.

Over the years, a few of those first 100 Razor pups started hitting the hunts and we started seeing what kind of reproducer we had. We began being more selective with the 2nd & 3rd 100 pups and therefore, there is much more success with those later crosses. That's also when Rob got the idea to begin rewarding competition hunters with their next Razor pup free if they NITECHed a Razor pup (a concept that has now been snatched by other kennels). It wasn't that the first 100 pups weren't bred as well- some of those crosses were repeated later with a great deal of success.

Hopefully, that clarifies a little more and gives the newcomers to the breed a little more info on Razor.

If anyone reading this has any specific questions about Razor, Rob and I are both very open and willing to talk about him. He was our heart and our hunting dog of a lifetime and surpassing Ace as the breed's all-time reproducer is something we never dreamed was possible all those years ago. I gave our numbers in the post above, feel free to call anytime. As you can see, I don't have time to follow the UKC board much anymore. A phone call is definitely easier.

Well, I would imagine that since Razor has 335 pups on the ground that one or two probably went to the average joe. We've also helped more than our share of young people get into the sport with a nice Razor pup over the years. Many of those boys went on to put wins on their dogs (out of Razor or his offspring or whatever else we handed them at the time) and many finished their dogs and have a right to be proud of those efforts.

Subzero, you are entitled to your opinion- but your opinion changes nothing. We'll continue to promote our dogs and continue to be as selective as we would like to be. Not every pup out of Razor or any other stud dog will make it. But it is absolutely OUR CHOICE (as long as there is free will still left in this country) to decide how and where Razor puppies will go. As mentioned above, we have sent many to pleasure hunters and big game hunters. The problem we've found, over the years, is that you can't get those guys to come off of those dogs when they make nice hounds and they are unwilling or unable to campaign them as well. It's hard to show what a dog can do if they never see a hunt.

Razor is the breed's #1 reproducer- we'll protect him because that is our right. Just as it is for you to hunt a Trackman or Sackett pup- both great reproducers because their pups were campaigned. Good luck with your hounds. We would never dream of discouraging you or disrespecting you for your choices- again-- freewill!

one last thing... *

Posted by TRRedbones on 10-20-2012 09:43 PM:

Jesse,

The Bruiser X Molly dog was made twice. The first cross is the one that produced Charlie Cole's NITECH Annie who won American Redbone Days (in 2000, I believe) Best Overall Dog of Hunt. Razor was actually from the repeat breeding. Some of his siblings were Henry Noss' NTCH CH Molly and Donnie Frazier's NTCH Goldie. Fred Moran also had a dog named Turkey- I can't remember off hand if he was from the 1st or 2nd cross.

How old is Copper now? I knew there was at least one brother still living. I think all of the girls have passed now. I tell you, losing Razor was extremely difficult on us. He was the King of our Kennel and always will be.

Last night, we lost the matriarch of my show kennel, Trippy. She was 3 mths shy of 12. Razor was 3 mths shy of 14 when we lost him last year. I am having a rough day today knowing that our two favorites are gone. The light at the end of the tunnel is that we still have that Razor semen. Sure wish we could've held on to some eggs from my girl though. =( Needless to say, it's been rough dealing with this post on the cusp of losing Trippy but we are always happy to offer information when asked so I decided it was necessary.

So glad to hear Copper is still doing well. Keep him close to you, they don't stay with us nearly long enough and, as I said on my facebook, these old dogs will sure rip your heart out.

well here is the way i see it if i had the razor seman i would proably hold it tight also because i like what he goes back to but more than likely i'm gona breed to spike because he goes back to hurst honest amos 3 times in 4 gen. thats what i want but yes i would still breed to razor given the chance if i could afford it also i'm sure rob is your every day working man like the rest of us there for i would protect my investment also and breeding to every thing under the sun doesn't help either look what happened to the english breed when swamp rooster was live got breed to every thing under the sun and trust me it didn't help the breed
