Pathfinder question

I read the manual and tried googling it but still don't have an answer. What does the RF Disconnect error message mean? What causes it? I get it often!

My understanding.....could be wrong....is that the collar is to far out to use the shock...you can still track....but can't tone or shock

The Radio Frequency is used between the connector and the collar. If it is disconnected then there could be several things causing it. One the dog is out of range. The following is from the Dogtra trouble shooting guide. I don't know what antenna your using on the connector but like the Garmin units. A better antenna that the factory one can improve signal strength and range. I would note also that many probably most carry the connector on their side. It speaks of your hands or things blocking.interferring with the antenna. How far is your dog when this happens. Also a possibility a cracked solder joint on the connector where the sam connection is on the connector. I have talked about the connector only so far but the antenna on the dog collar is the other half of the picture. Could be some corrosion or problem with it. You just have to look at the big picture and check everything out. There could be a half dozen reasons and they have to be checked. The range and frequency of the signal loss should point you on where to look first.
3. The PATHFINDER has no range or the stimulation is weaker when my dog is farther away.
- Check to see if your fingers are touching the antenna as the range may
decrease substantially.
- Keep objects away from touching the GPS connector's antenna as the range
may decrease substantially.
- The range indicated is for line-of-sight flat terrain. Heavy brush, trees, hills,
buildings, and/or moisture will affect the range of your unit. For the best range, hold the GPS connector vertically above your head, and/or try moving to higher ground.
- Any electrical conductors will affect the range, such as cars, chain-link dog runs, metal structures, and radio towers. For the best results, operate away from these structures.

Thank you. I thought all those parts you posted were referring to GPS signal, not RF connectivity. If things like buildings and metal and cars affect the RF connectivity then you probably just solved my problem. My dog is still a pup and so far I've just been putting the collar on her around home so I can get used to it and she can as well. She's usually within 2 miles, but I'M usually standing on the porch with a metal roof, or leaning on the car in the driveway, etc. So, sounds like that must be the issue. Thanks again.
