Case X Clara

Four years ago, this cross was made with good results. Back in May we made the cross again. Ole Clare looked like she was about to pop, by the time the puppies were due. At this same time, Rhett went on vacation, and left me to watch over his hounds. The morning of July 2nd., Donald went to Rhett's house to check on Clara (I was at work), and found her unresponsive. He loader her up, and hauled her to the vet. Dr. Breaux in Gonzales, La. went into action. He did a C-section, and delivered 12 live puppies. He told Donald, he didn't think Clara would make it, and we better have a lot of time on our hands to bottle feed these pups. With Rhett gone, me working, what are we going to do? Dr. Breaux recommended a lady named Ms. Denise Theriot, said she was the best at raising new born pups. He called her, and with in minutes, she was there picking up the pups. That night one pup died, and she really had to work with two others to keep them from dying. Ms Theriot had to leave town the following week, so on Sunday, I went to her house and picked up the pups. I had asked my mother and sister, if they would be welling to babysit these pups. My mother took 6 of them and my sister took the other 5. The pups are 2.5 weeks old now, and all 11 are doing great. I took this picture yersterday evening at my mothers. After a 6 day stay at the vet, Clara came home. She is still recovering, but can never have pups again.

Success story

Glad to hear things worked out with pups & keeping female alive. Most times it is the opposite, female dies & most of pups, if not all. Hope you get a nice female coon dog to carry on for the one that can't have any more pups for you. Take care, Ron.

ps- I've been down the poor end of this situation a couple times.

Thanks Ron, if it wasn't for Ms Theriot, we would have any or only a few pups left.
