Just want to have fun and see what my hounds are made of

I've been coon hunting my whole life from 5 years old till now in my mid 30s and finally have dogs of my own that I have raised from 8 weeks till now and they are best I have ever had and they have earnd a outsanding rep around here for being the best and now im finally financially able to go to some hunts with my 8 year old daughter.we have been to a couple UKC show and hunts And yes I admit comp hunt and show is all new to me I try to stand back and listen and learn as well as watch and even try to talk to some guys on the side line and ask a question or two to learn a little since no one wants to go in to any thing and look dumb but 98% of guys I talked to seem to just brush me off and all they can tell me is how good their dogs are ect and if my dogs aren't grand night dogs I'm just wasting my time and its not worth the effort for me to enter a hunt or show I enjoy hunting more than anything and if I'm not having fun then Im just as well hunting . I'm the type of person to help anyone and I have let a lot of people put their dogs with mine to finish them out and never ask anything other than have fun and make a new friend point I'm trying to make is it a waste of time to try to have some fun and see how my dogs stack up or are all people at a UKC or PKC hunt just all about them self and cussing and kicking dirt ?

No way.

Not all people are like that. I seen you posted about missing the Sampson county hunt? There is a hunt at the Goodman Swamp club in Tarheel, NC tonight and one again at Sampson County November 3. You will meet all different types of people at these hunts some a little more “high strung” than others but for the most part everybody is good people.

IMA try a few hunts and just see where it goes and hope there on the level thanks for the replys and help I'll just consider them to be a learning experience for sure

Comp hunting is what you make out of it. For me it is very enjoyable. I’m a very laided back fellow, and don’t let many things get me upset. First thing I would suggest, is get a rule book and learn the rules, also get the “Coonhound Advisor”. It will go over situation that you will come across at some point in the hunts. It gives the situations, and the rules to answer these questions about the situation. Secondly, join a locate club and attend the meetings. Most clubs have club hunts. On our club hunts, we let the less experienced fellows judge the hunt. It is a learning opportunity, and a chance to get comfortable. Thirdly, ENJOY YOU SELF! Don’t be one of these guys that feel they are always being cheated.
