lost an old friend today

Jo Moore died on March 1st. He retired from the marines after 26 years with 3 tours of Vietnam. He was 83. He showed me around when I first arrived here and we hunted squirrels a lot. He had a dog that some of you might remember, a feist named Tippy Toes. Later I moved on the mostly night hunting. He never went with me at night because he was afraid of poking his eye out. I thought that was odd. But we frequently talked about hunting and compared what each was doing. Now he's gone and I don't have anyone with which to share hunting.
I'll share more in another post

Sorry for you loss. It's always sad when you lose a mentor. Just thank the big man upstairs that you got to share their company and remember the good times.

Sorry for your loss.
Your memory of your friend not wanting to hunt at night reminded me of my husband's nephew. A few yrs ago, he got a thorn in his eye hunting coons. He almost lost his eye and was off work for months. He doesn't hunt much at night anymore.

old friend

sir, i'm really sorry you lost your friend. i understand, its hard beyond bearing sometimes when you loose a friend like you describe mr moore was to you. makes me think of a best friend i have that can no longer hunt with me anymore. we hd alot of good times together coonhunting and more recently squirrel hunting together that i willnever forget. hurts me now to talk about it. man, we hadsome times together. we use to sit in truck in the ninties listening to hounds un a bad coon track and my friend would reach under seat and pull out a bottle of red wine, and say lets take a drink, maybe it'll help dogs do a little better, and it seemed it usually did some how. he only drank for health reasons ,he'd say. we hunted together for years like that untill he had heart trouble and it stoppedhim for a while. he loved hounds like me. years later on. we both got squirrel dogs and we started hunting together again, he was near 80 then. it was in 2008 then. we had a blast for about 4 more years, squirrel hunting. absolutely one of the toughest, honest, caring, hard hunting men i have ever had the honor to hunt with. he is a ''legend'' in my eyes. he's sick now with altimerzers, but he still remembers. i miss my friend, i love my friend. now i'm going through alot and my hunting has been brought to a halt for now too. i'll endure.its all right, you play the cards you're dealt. what choice do you have? good lord willing, i'llbe back, and when that day arrives, i'll carry my friend to every tree i walk to. my friends name is wink cockrell, and i will never forget.
agin ,i'm sorry for your lose, may the lord bless you and protect you when you're out there hunting. watch out for them bears out there.lol i treeda bunch down there.
