New to the bluedogs
I am interested in learning more about the pedigrees of the blue dogs. There seem to be some many out there, how does one know what makes a good cross. What traits do each pedigree have. Examples cold nose, bawl on track, or hot nose. I just looking to be knowledgeable about the breed. Thank you for your time and help.
your
asking a big question... You will get various responses based on personal experiences with a limited amount of exposure to certain lines.. Your best bet is to contact the breeders themselves who have developed what they hunt over several generations to get the answers you want. Utchman, Jet, Mailes, Hammer, Mad Dog, etc. Go to the source.

Yeah, I competition hunt !! All Fall and Winter long.. My Blues compete with the local coon.. My Blues win a ton !!! We use and recommend MOONSHINER LIGHTS, Peggs , Ok.
Thank you wayne. I sure will. I currently have 1 smokey river gyp and just purchased a pair of smokey river pups. Is there anyone you might recommend I get in touch with?

Since Warren Haslouer is no longer among us I would say, Matt Turner, John Gill, Rev. Craig Edwards, Guy Ormiston, There are several others trying to keep the stuff that Warren owned alive..
Warren generally bought hounds not of a certain bloodline to breed.. He bought what he thought were the best and bred them.. That kinda changed to a degree when Smoky River Diamond Jim showed up.. He was a supreme reproducer. There are several others far more qualified than me to go deeper into this with you.

Smoky River was a kennel name more than a bloodline with genetic continuity.
Produced a lot of good dogs.
I liked the old Diamond Jim stuff better than the Chief dogs, but that's just me.

You have to hunt with multiple dogs of the same bloodline in order to be able to determine common traits, or talk to someone who is very knowledgeable and honest about a specific bloodline. As far as a good cross goes you want to load up on dogs with the desired traits while limiting faults that you can't live with, but in all reality every cross seems to be somewhat of a crap shoot
My advice to you is go hunt with as many dogs as you can and talk to as many people as you can. You'll soon find yourself being able to assess abilities and traits while making buddies that can help you along the way
