Performance Pack
I have been out of beagles and trials for 12 years. I used to go to the Hunting Beagle trials. My question is what type or style of hound are you all running in performance pack is it a more line control hound? and I have heard that a lot of clubs are running in pens. Thanks for any information you can give me.
We have a UKC Performance Pack club not far from you in Rockingham County, VA - Rockingham County Beagle Club. We run upper-med to fast dogs with honest mouths and superior control. The dogs should be able to accurately show the direction of the track and pick up quick checks by staying tight in the check area.
We do not run in pens at all. At our club we have plenty of running grounds on farms and plenty of rabbits naturally.
We have a hunt at the end of this month, here is the info:
VA, Broadway; Rockingham County Beagle Club Interstate 81, (exit 257). Take ramp toward Mauzy. Turn on VA-259. Turn left on US-11. Turn right on Mauzy Athlone Road. Club house is approx. 1 mi. Virginia State Championship. Contact Randy Harris (540) 271-1406

Thanks Hallmountainman I see you have hunts next month also. My buddies are planning on coming out. My hound is AKC registered can I register the morning of the hunt? do I need her papers or is it like it used to be an inspection and measurement? Thanks
Yeah I'd recommend to bring the AKC papers so you can have the pedigree listed on the UKC papers as well. Registering costs $20. They will still do the breed inspection and measurement even with the papers though. However, if you don't want to register the dog with UKC yet, you can run a "conditional" entry which costs a couple dollars and gives you a month to register the dog if it places in the hunt.
It's the state hunt at the end of this month, so it should be a really good turnout!
Feel free to text or call me with any questions you have about the hunt.

I think what you remember as Hunting Beagle will be very similar to what you will see in Performance Pack. The Hunting Beagle people have realized that in Performance Pack you can run more than one dog at a time and have become judges. In my mind, Performance Pack has gotten much rougher than the way it started. A nice clean dog has a difficult time competing today. I now call it "Hunting Beagle Pack"! I will say I like the format much much much better than Hunting Beagle. The idea of a non-hunting judge has its attractions, as a result the judging, seems to me, to produce fewer surprises.
If you liked Hunting Beagle before you'll love Performance Pack now!
Thanks guys I think what I have now is slower hound from what I ran in Hunting beagle 12 years ago. she is Buckshot jones bred but I'm going to come out and see what its all about Thanks so much for all the information.
