Cb vs marine

Who runs what in their trucks? It seems like guys here run marine in their trucks. Is there any advantages using a marine over a cb? Now if I already have a cb in my truck can I use my current firestik antenna and coax?

I'd be interested to know that too,,I've run cb with a lot of juice behind it to get out,,I'm pushing over 2000 watts,,,lol,,and can get to china on side band,,,lol,,but can't even turn it on when coonhunting ,,it would fry my alpha since the alpha can't be near anything that puts out more than 5 watts,,but if the marine can get out a decent range and not fry my alpha,,I'd be very interested

Marines are much quieter and have better range. You don't hear the skip talk that comes from cbs and you can usually set the squelch and never have to keep adjusting it.

We use them running coyotes with hounds. Rule of thumb is keep your garmin antenna at a different height level than your radio antennna. we have had no garmins ruined.

Marine radios are typically made to withstand a little more shock and vibration and are also waterproof, so all around they are tougher built radios. Marine operates up on 156-162 mhz. CB operates around 27 mhz. What this translates to is that with higher frequency you can get half again as much range with the marine radio if you have a "loaded" or high DB gain antenna.
The problem with using one over the other where they don't belong is that, for example, with a CB in a boat you are not going to get much help if you need it...same way with the marine radio...if there is water around where you are using it and try to call for help somebody on the nearby bay or lake in a boat cant come to your aid in the woods. Truckers driving over a bridge will hear your cb in your boat, but cant come get you off the sandbar.
That aside, certain marine channels are reserved for certain communications...not meant for a pack of hillbillies out a bar huntin' to chatter back and forth. No water anywhere near, than pretty much no problem.
As far as the antenna...you can use it, it's yours, but...an antenna designed to transmit at 27mhz is not ideal used at 156mhz.
