Help with English

Hello Gents! I have some questions for those experienced with this breed and it's bloodlines. I am considering trying some of these dogs to see how they fit my needs...I will be running coon, and would also like to try my hand at big game...bear and bobcat both...here is what I looking for and like in a hound:


* I am looking for FAST track speed

* I am looking for good cold nose that can deal with dry ground conditions when chasing cats

* I am looking for grit as I may run bear

* I prefer big bawl mouth ( LOVE THAT SOUND)

* They must be smart!

* They must handle well


Thank you in advance for you time and responses!

I'd say Wilcox would be your best bet to get what your looking for.

The first link is for Idaho Lightfoot Kennels and based on the info you have provided, he should be able to help in what you need. He trees a lot of cat and bear with his English dogs.

The second is the link for Wilcox Thunder Kennels. Plenty of reading there as Larry Wilcox's line has produced dogs that can handle big game and winners in competition.

I don't think you could go wrong with blood from either one.

If I was going to hunt big game I would go with a Grand Lake bred dog.

D Burrows built dogs that look, hunt, sound, and act like hounds. they won there share of casts, but where they excelled was getting the job done when others couldn't. He also demanded a bawl mouth track dog.

he, myself, david minson, and a cpl others used to get togather a few times a year to hunt around Vinita OK. I miss those hunts the most.

It's a shame that Darrell passed away. The English breed lost a good man that day.

To get some of his old blood, a guy would need to get in touch with either David Minson or John Kirby. They should know where some of it is here in Oklahoma.
