Starting a kennel?

I'm very interested in starting my own kennel and im very young but i think i could handle a couple of more dogs because i love doing it! but i was just gonna see if anyone had any advice like is it better to do it solo or go in with someone as a partner or something like that?
Any input would be great!

anything you can't do on your own DON'T DO !! most and I say most partnerships go south eventually . second if you are gonna try it for the money remember that most kennels run in the red and on a very good year just break even . other than that go for it and remember quality over quantity is all that matters and all anybody will remember and talk about .

I like most of the coonhound breeds, do people have multi breed kennels or do must just have a single breed in there kennel?

You should probably start with explaining what you mean, when you say starting a "kennel". Do you mean training dogs? Do you mean raising and selling dogs? A breeding program???

If you have some plan for making money... Robert is right, you do NOT make money raising coon dogs. You have to own something special to sell pups, and even when you do, there's a huge investment in just raising a litter. And even when you're winning money at hunts, you don't always win and it cost money to travel to them, as well as enter them. And of course, there's the gas money spent every week, to keep your dogs in shape for competition.

SO... DO NOT DO THIS IF THE PLAN IS TO MAKE MONEY. Do it because it's what you love. And if what you love is hunting a certain style of dog or breed, then own that. If you enjoy hunting different dogs from different breeds, do that. Do what you love doing, because enjoyment is all you can count on getting back in return.

So here's where you start... figure out what kind of dog you like, by hunting with others. Do you want one that goes deep, or hunts close? One that will pack with your friends' dogs, or one that is always by itself? Do you care what they look like, or could care less? Do you care what type of voice they have, or does that not matter? Lot's of decisions, before you even buy a dog. Because if your plan is raising dogs, you'll have to decide what type of dog you want to produce.

Once you know what you like, try to find one for sale at a reasonable price. That's a big hurdle! Then love it, hunt it and take care of it! And once you have one dog you love and can count on, then you start thinking about what your kennel will be made up of...

Long story short... most people on this forum that have a "kennel" probably never planned to have a kennel, they just hunted a dog that they liked and then bought another one like it, or bred it to something and raised a litter. And ended up having several dogs or a line of dogs that they liked, but the goal was hunting what they liked, and producing more of it, not "having a kennel".

Just hunt, and enjoy it.
