Anyone ever get a coondog from a shelter?
Anyone ever rescue a dog from a shelter or from a person that got it someone who had it as a pet that turned out to be a "coondog"?

A boy that I work with hunts with a 71 year old man who got a Black and Tan dog from the pound that looked to be about 6 months old. The dog is jus about over a year and and the old man claims it the best dog he's ever owned.

Mine got gone once. Couldnt find him for nothing. Called the shelter several times. They kept saying no. We dont have a hound like that. So about 7 days later called again. They said no hounds BUT I heard him barking in the background this time. Took off down there. There he stands. Been there for a week. Fixing to be put down. Still had his collar on with 2 phone numbers on it. Needless to say. I bout got locked up. My temper got the best of me
So the answer is. I guess you cant ever tell what you could stumble across.

Yes, I got a English gyp at the pound 1 time. She was about 3 months old when I got her. She ended up being silent on track and a dandy little tree dog. I traded her and some cash for one of the dogs I have now. I just didn't like that she wouldn't throw the first bark on track. She ended up being a pretty accurate little dog. I always go for a pup though that way you can train them. I had a buddy get a about 3 year old walker male at the same pound and it would run track, But when the dogs treed it would go back to the truck and lay under the truck and be scared to death. He ended up giving it way.
