leash law in northern wis
at the dnr meeting held last monday in northern wis friend asked the game warden there at the meeting about the leash law from may 1st to july 1st the game warden told him the leash law only pretains to dnr land and state owned land other wise it is legal to run hounds
Not for bear that is, maybe for coyote and coon. Bear has its own set season when they can be pursued in terms of training purposes, July 1 through August 31. No matter state or private land I'm sure the warden didn't fully understand the question asked.
Also the date is incorrect. Dogs can't be off an 8 foot leash after Apr 15th on State lands. I believe the May 1 designation is for county lands.
The bear seasons are different altogether. Then the dogs can be off leash anywhere after Jun 30.
leash law
warden said leash law only pretains to state and dnr owned land north of hwy 29 that is the only stipulation to the leash law other wise you can run your hounds on any thing you want to run
regulations
This is written in the bear hunting regulations..... it is illegal to: hunt or pursue any free-roaming wild animal with the aid of any dog from may 1 to June 30 north of the highways shown on the map below (Google wi bear training season and to see map) Except for approved dog trials and training on free roaming rabbits or raccoons under a hound dog trial or training license.
Untrue for only up north in southern wi its the same way its for the nesting animals so dogs aren't killing all the young its in the regulations book
