We use to carry a small bottle of turpentine. Put some on the bite and pour a small amount down the dogs throat. Seems to draw the poison out....

Looks like asperin would thin the blood and speed up the poison circulating thru out the dog....Good question for a vet.

benadryl antibiotics and a steroid shot.this is what the vet gave big dog when he got bit.he layed in the floor of my living room with his head on my lap and shook all night.

When mine was bit that night...I. called an emergency line and the vet told me Bayer aspirin works good for pain...so that's why I keep it at the house and on me when hunting

Snake bites

I use Benadryl at a dose of 1 to 1.5 mg per pound, This will decrease the allergic reaction to the venom and also decrease the incidence of nausea and vomiting. I then administer decadron also known as dexamethasone at a dose of 5 to 10 mg, I'll usually give them 5 and watch and may give them 5 more. Or you can use Solu-medrol if you don't have Dex. Then I give them an injection of Penecillin at a dose 1 to 2 cc or 300,000 to 600,000 units. I will give an IV of Normal saline solution with a microdrip set (60 drops/cc) in the front leg. Note: You will probably have to shave the front of their leg and apply a tournequit to find the vein in their leg for an IV. Once the IV is started remove the tournequit!!! I use a 22 or 20 gauge IV catheter depending on the size of the vein. The IV is for circulatory support, pit viper bites can cause a massive circulatory collapse and it will keep the hydrated if they won't drink. I either bring them in the house or stay at the barn with them all night to monitor their respirations. A small amount of aspirin can be given to relieve pain, but at a childs dose!!
