Trying to learn about fostering and placing a B&T coonhound

I have a friend who will be fostering a one-year-old, spayed black and tan coonhound starting this evening. She currently has sighthounds, but she's never had a scenthound before. She owns a home with about a quarter acre, where her dogs are allowed to run as needed outside, although they are housed indoors. Will this exercise be sufficient for a young coonhound? Do you have other recommendations for exercise for her? My friend is about sixtyish and overweight, so going out for long jogs/hikes is probably out of the question.

My friend took Amy because of the threat that she would be put to sleep if she was not fostered immediately. The dog does have some minor, trainable issues, but she is wonderfully sweet-natured and eager to please. Are there any coonhound rescues in Louisiana that anyone here knows about, who might be willing to take her? If not, does anyone here have any recommendations for how we should go about finding her a home? This dog does not need to be put to sleep and we do not want her going into the LA shelter system, where they are even less equipped to deal with placing another large, black dog--let alone a young, active hound. Any assistance that your forum can offer is very welcome.

I dont know anyone, around here,

Thats ever Fostered a Coonhound, but I will tell you, if the Quarter Acre You have to excersise her on, isnt fenced, she will probably be out of there in just a little bit, Hounds are known to Roam, and Chase things.

Thank you for your reply! I figured that most people here would have had their own dogs, but might be able to point me in the right fostering direction. We don't want to give up on this girl yet.

Yes, the quarter acre is fenced. The woman who will actually be fostering her has afghan hounds, so she has a six-foot wood and chain link fence all around her property. Any suggestions that anyone can offer to do right by this girl are welcome.

?

Mr/Mrs Loup Garou,

Do you know anything about the hound? Do you think it might make a good hunting dog?

I don't know that much about her early months, only that she was kept chained outside by people who didn't take very good care of her. My friend is willing to consider a hunting home for her, but we don't know if she ever got hunting training. I think that Amy is a willing dog and a smart one, but I have no idea--yet--what kind of instinct she has for hunting. I'll see if I can get more information on any hunting background she might have tonight and post what I find out tomorrow. Right now, I'm on the way out the door for a pre-season football game...

Thanks for everything, Richard!

Kim
