my boy plays a little but he started off on guitar, he was playing it in a couple of days. the hardest thing i think is the roll were you use your thumb index and middle finger picking the strings and keeping time. find somebody that picks and play along with them.

Pawn shops, yardsales and flea markets, or even auctions are all good hunting grounds for a banjo. You might also look for a tuner that has the full range given as the banjo sure has some weird tunings and a bunch of them. The good part is you play tabs and not notes, so might look for a decent capo to choke 'er some as about ever tune call for the dang thing. If all else fails, at least you will be ready to go out looking for a bull to hit when someone says something about your marksman ship.... you can show them just how wrong they are !
