Richard,

My huntin' buddy,Allen Johnson, had a really bad flea and tick problem a few months ago.Seemed like they just showed up over night. He had read about the Bayer Tree & Shrub,so he went and bought some at Home Depot. He removed the needle off a syringe, loaded 3 ml into the syringe(for, say a 50 lb.dog)right out of the bottle and ran it down the dogs' backs from the back of their necks to base of tail.He hasn't had a problem since.I just bought a female and a pup off her recently. Both were infested with fleas.I bathed the pup twice and put the Bayer on the bitch. Not a problem since.Hope this helps you out.

Can it be bought without the fertilizer additive?

i wouldn't put it down the spine to the tail the idea is to put it where the hound cant lick it. it doesn't work by contact ,it is absorbed through the skin and fleas die when they bite the dog. been useing it for years and it works well
