MY vet uses a pair of slightly 'cupped' or 'curled' scissors and cuts them below the skin level. She uses super glue to bind the skin back together. When they are grown there is no bump or any sign of them. Has to be done about two or three days old though.

I saw on Dirty Jobs a guy who raises sled dogs just used a hemostat and pinched them off. He said when they are pinched off it crushes the vessels so it doesn't bleed. I would still put some super glue on it.
save them and make you a good Dew claw Stew MMM MMMM LOL just jokeing my father always took fingernail clipers an snaped them off an put flour on them to stop what bleeding there was but i would use superglue .
