Feeding a puppy

What age do you start giving them dog food as opposed to just letting them nurse?

I start introducing them to Purina Puppy Chow at about 4 weeks but still let them nurse. I mix the puppy chow in warm water and let it get real soft and put the pups around it and they will usually start eating right away. By 6 weeks my puppies are usually weaned.

My last litter started eating around 3 weeks old. I too do like Mr. Virgil soak it in warm water until soft then give it to them to eat.

I use the Purina calf replacer. Soak the food in the calf replacer (it comes in a powder form, I soak it is warm water) and start putting it in front of them at 3 weeks.

I know this sounds funny, put the last litter I had I absolutely enjoyed everyday when I would give this mixture to the pups. They are so small at this age and they fall all in the food and then they take turns licking the milk off each other... it sure was funny watching them... atleast I enjoyed it!
