The Pill
I've heard there is a pill that you can give a female (dog) to make them come into heat. Does anyone know the Phone # or Address where these can be ordered from.
Thanks in Advance,
Brad
ask
your vet,,it is a shot
my vet just told me he did not recomend it.
no
one will recomeand it
I work at a vet clinic and it is not recomended... and for good reasons. one day at work I had asked about it cause one of my dogs was not coming in heat, they had told me all the side effects of it and how it can cause some serious problems, (more bad than good.)
and a few days later a female dog came in the clinic that was given the shot and it had brought her into heat and she was breed. and now in the middle of giving birth. (the owners had waited about 3 hours with her pushing and no puppy when they decided to bring her in.) We had to remove the puppies and quick. (before it killed the gyp.)
Here is why I have took the time to type this...
when they started to get the puppies out there was only one puppy in her, and he was already dead, but he had probably been dead since before she started having contractions. he was an abnormaly long puppy and he was bent in half in the mothers birth canal. when he was removed they looked him over and the puppy was compleatly deformed. and it was all most likely side effects from the shot. because every thing else was "normal" as far as the breeding and gestation part goes.
and the worst part of all is that the gyp had to be spayed and now will never be able to have puppies.
So please think long and hard about giving that shot. It could turn out good for you and I hope if you choose to do it that it would, but after me watching first hand the bad side effects. I know I will never give any of my dogs the shot and will never encorage anyone to do it either.
Good luck with your choice and Happy Hunting,
Shelly Embrey
Im going to tell you of a couple drugs we use at the hog farm. We use these everyday of the week all year long. To the tune of 50 or more shots a week. I have yet to see a side effect traced to either one of them.
I dont know if there approved for dogs, they have been used in them but I dont know that there approved for them. In fact I had the head of a university tell me how to use one of them for dogs.
I have also used both in cattle and goats when AIing them.
*******PG600 (Intervet)*********
or
dinoprost tromethamine (trade name Prostimate or Lutalyse)
(Pharmacia & Upjohn)
I wont tell you how to use them or recomend doing it. I will tell you to check them out.
