I wouldn't buy any pup that wasn't Super Staked and Performance nominated.
I would not buy one thats not SS. If I'm gonna buy one and put the time in. Its gonna be SS. Atleast if the pup turned out I would have a shot at all that money.
i agree they gotta be superstaked

not even an option, no super stakes.......... none of my money.
You cant hardly GIVE AWAY a pup around here that isnt Super Stakes.
Very few pups around here are SS.
A good stud dog up here might breed 3-4 females a year, it dosent pay to SS them.
There is very, very few PKC hunts around here....SS dosent matter to me, but then again Im not interested in buying pups. Id rather hunt what I breed.
would not have to be super staked for me,in fact could care less had pkc paper or was super staked, last two pups I bought had pkc papers which I ran though a paper shredder.don't need any pkc paper, don't have no plans now or ever to hunt for money so why mess with that places papers or programs

Thats like UKC guys to buy a pup that isnt performace nominated. Theres a lot of money out there to be won in both programs.

Heck I'll buy a grade dog if it had the qualities I like in a coon dog.
Papers, SS, Performance doesn't matter to me.
The dogs I own and hunt are not competition style dogs so it doesn't matter to me. I prefer older style cold nosed hounds.
Kinda funny that I own more papered dogs than I do grade dogs. It's usually opposite.
Depending on what you hunt depends on what you are interested in.
Got one that is and one that isn't.
Doesn't really matter to me personally BUT in these parts it better be if it is to actually be "worth" something.

Josh, I agree. Around here it is the same way.Yea it looks good on paper but I have yet to see a S/S hunt up here in our neck of the woods. There are some guys around here that are just breeding to a S/S sires so they can sell the pups for big money. There females they are breeding are the furthest thing from a coon dog as you can get. All they are looking at is the papers.

Unless I have hunted with both parents a few times and was impressed by them the pup had better be SS and I had rather it also be a performance pup also. If there not you are lucky to get $500 for a nice young dog where you could get $2000 for that same pup paid up in the programs. So why not pay alittle extra and pay up the pups when you get so much more of a return if you decide to tell them.
Don't really see that it matters, we don't have many PKC hunts close. We have wasted a lot of money on dogs that were triple registered with SS and Performance paid up that turned out to be nothing but lazy porch dogs. People talked them up but they were nothing.
Our best ones are all UKC, some PKC or AKC there but no SS or Performance. We may nominate one of our males eventually if we decide to breed much but it doesn't seem worth the money right now. The hunts we go to are mostly just local clubs anyway.
You should either change your subject, or your first post. You are asking two different questions that are 180 opposite.
I wouldn't even pet a puppy that wasn't SS.
WOULDN'T GO AS FAR AS NOT PETTING ONE, BUT WHY WASTE TIME AND MONEY ON FEED, GAS, AND HUNTING CLUB DUES IF YOU COULDN'T GET A LITTLE MONEY BACK.

Everybody thinks they have be s/s but I wonder what percentage even come close to ever seeing a s/s cast?
I wonder what percentage of those who follow and post on this board don't comp hunt? It would seem obvious that if you didn't hunt in the nite hunts you would see little reason to Super Stake or Perf nom a pup. I would guess the percentage of non-competitors on this board is around 40%. Plus the 3 or 4% from Mn/Ws.

I didn't even know how to answer your question, your wordng didn't come out right I don't think.
But must be enrolled in both programs, yes.
if the stud dog is not super staked he dont get much buisness............get you a super staked pup that can flat do the job and get you one that is not and doing the job and see which one is worth more...................
if you dont thinks this true you are lost in the 70s..................
Now before you all have an heart attack the following is just my opinion. I believe the SS Program is highly overrated. Just consider the numbers, based on recent numbers (278 pups Thursday, 310 pups Friday), it probably is a safe estimate that only about 650 pups actually hunt the SS. If 10,000 pups are enrolled in the program that means there is a 6% chance that you will hunt in the SS. If the total pups enrolled is 20,000, then you only have 3% chance to hunt in the hunt. Now, figure the odds of winning or placing high enough to offset your expenses. Those odds are pretty darn high.
I just don't understand the mentality that a dog will only reproduce if it is a SS sire. That dog's genes don't know whether or not it is a SS sire. That dog's genes doesn't care that the only thing it takes to become a SS sire is for the owner to shell out money.
Now, with that said, i don't have a problem with those that can afford the SS program to enjoy the program. If you have the mean great. Me, I don't have the means.
