Frog Gigging

any of you doing any of this right now? i went out last sat for the first time in a long time and i forgot how fun it was.. it was nice to let the dogs rest a night and get the boat out.. ended up with about 30 of them between all of us. missed alot more but that all part of the fun. if you guys have some pics post them. also id like to know how you guys go about giggins( usually small ponds sloughs, lakes? wade, or boat use gig or fighing pole etc..)
i plan on going again next week.. ill try and get a few pics up

Haven't gone in years but we use to wade. A well placed .22 between the eyes works best,

Yes they will. Also with the .22 you don't have to actually hit them,if you hit close to them it will stun them. But as soon as you touch them they get gone if you don't have a good hold on them.

yeah i think its more of a dieing sport than coon hunting..lol
i remember when i was in grade school you could go out in the country and see quite a few people with lights on in pond and sloughs in the summer. but not any more.

Its been a long time since I giged a frog. My favorite spot was a local golf course. easy walking and frogs all over the water holes.

Posted by rabbitman85 on 06-29-2010 04:20 AM:

I got a buddy that gets farm raised one for me. They are really big legs with a great taste, just not as fun lol. Catchen em is half the fun. I walk around in the swamp when im huntin in the summer time and just grab em up while im waitin for the dogs to tree.

We used to use a canoe and a .22 splattershot, like a shotgun shell for a .22. I have used a bow also, but that takes a little more doing.

We use a canoe and a 22 cal. pellet gun at night. They jump once with a 177 cal and you gotta feel around for them.

gotta love some giggin!!

frog gigging

Use to go all the time , but now in ILLINOIS you cant use "gigs" , they are illegal , you can only use the ones that catch them, like a basket with spring loaded jaws, and its just not the same.

One night I came across this shallow pond in the woods and it was loaded. I caught about 6 big 'uns with me light and hands.

I still prefer chicken.

Make a slit in the back like a squirel. Skins real easy.Icut off the feet for more eye appeal.
If gigging use a sack. Its amazing how many revive and jump out the boat.
