Bowl flippers!!!!!!!!

Boys Ive put up with this for years and cant take it anymore!!!! I have been on a bad run lately, last 4-5 young dogs that I have raised are all bad bowl flippers, I have tried alot of diff things but no luck at all, I have one now that wont drink for couple days and when I get him fresh water he takes one drink and flips it over.

Anyone have simple ideas they use for dogs that pull this crap? Im thinking along the lines of casting concrete bowls

When I have had bad bowl flippers I would attach there feed and water dishes to a 2x2 piece of ply wood that solved the flipping problem for me after a month or so I remove the plywood and they had forgotten about flipping the bowls

Get square plastic horse pans that have the actual pan inside of an outer shell from local farm store run some wood screws through the out side edges turn upside down and fill with concrete.

i have always had trouble with them peeing and crapping in them to , my water and feed bowls hang off the floor on the chain link wire , i made mine and i am not sure if you can buy that type or not ..

Get two old tiars an set a 5 gal bucket in the middle, after a few weeks take one off and then the last one.

They make holders to attach to chain link and it holds the bowls. Can get em at tractor supply. I have the small ones I use to feed in.

I used to use frying pans for feed dishes but I have one dog now that would flip his feed dish right in front of me and eat his feed off the ground. I went to TSC and bought him a SS feed bowl that is only about 3" tall and about a foot in dia it can't possibly be flipped. They cost around $10. I liked it so well I bought all my dogs one. Your water bucket is a different story you just need to anchor it to something. I've seen a couple good Ideas on this thread when it comes to that. I did try your concrete bowl idea for a bird dog years ago. it did work but got to be a hassle to keep clean in the summertime when the green slime started growing in it, a plastic bucket is allot easier to scrub out.

Wanna bet?,,,my female will,,she has destroyed afew buckets I've hung on the fence,,at first she will dump the water,,then eventually she will rip bucket right off the fence,and she eats them to shreds,,so I tried round plastic bowls and put screws thru sides and screwed it to wooden floor,,she will chew all around the top untill she can get good grip on it and tear it up from the floor,,she is hell on anything plastic,,now I have a 50 pound water bowl made out of concrete,,,I've had no problems since,,,lol

I have has got to be the worst I have seen. I always thought it was because he was bored. Hunt the guts out of him and you think he would stop. Nope, keeps right on doing it. Clip them to the fence and he just plays with it until empty. Build boxes, tears them up to. Just a total fool in the kennel. Lol. But I really like him so I put up with it. I still remember the day I anchored them to the fence, he stood there looking at me like I was a fool to even try.

I didn't pour my own when I used a concrete for a water bowl. I went to a lawn and garden place and bought a concrete pot that was probably about 1' x 1' x 1'.

I used a 5 gallon bucket for the center(watering hole) I used a larger tub bigger than the bucket to form the concrete bowl,without 5 gallon bucket in tub,I poured around 1 1/2 to 2 inches of concrete into tub,,worked it so there were no holes going thru,,then I centered 5 gallon bucket in the center and poured concrete to desired height,worked it so it looked good,need to do this all at same time so all concrete cures at the same time,,I also put oil or grease on outside of bucket so concrete wouldn't stick,,while concrete is curing,I would spin bucket but leaving in place,,about every 10 minutes,,once concrete was hard enough,,I pulled bucket out and let set for 24 hours,,and you have a nice bowl they won't flip,,if you make one,,make sure you spin that bucket every so other or it just may be there for good,,,lol,,,it's simple to do,,,sounds harder than it is,,
You can even form your own mold if you don't have a larger tub laying around!,just be creative,,,lol

Some of you aren't gonna want to hear this, but the old adage an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure applies here.

Individual dogs are probably more prone to it, but boredom and excess energy can produce bad habits of all sorts, and bad habits with nothing else to do will more often than not turn into obsession. It will start quicker with young dogs than any.

I've had dogs of all types and only ever had 2 that started it and were quickly and easily deterred. Like most people I've seen dogs of all types that were bad about it.

Your right it is boredom but my bowl flipper is the dog I hunt the legs off of. I usually give him credit for being the smartest hound I own. I think the problem is to much upstairs, his "brain" gets him in trouble when he's idle LOL

I have had more trouble with dogs ( mainly pups ) chewing on and destroying the bowls. We used to raise a lot of hogs and some of them were kept outside. There was a local company that years ago made round water troughs for the hogs. We still have a lot of them and that is what I use. I made stands for mine so I can wash out pens yet. They weigh about 40 lbs so they can't be flipped. I have not had a dog chew one up yet.

It usually starts when they're young, whether what's starting to happen mentally is caught at the time or not. Once it's a habit it's not necessarily a result of anything at the time, it's just something they do.

I'm not trying to be a know it all but I've had young dogs here that needed 30-45 minutes EVERY day running loose in the yard or going for walks, on top of running in the woods if you were gonna keep the mental edge knocked off of them. Never had a problem with dogs I had here as young'uns destroying stuff or flipping bowls.

i just buy 3 gal buckets and put them in milk crates wire buckets to crate and wire crate to kennel ive got on that will rip just a bucket off the kennel pannel every time started useing the milk crates and she got bored with it

My female has enough things in her pen to keep her busy for 2 lifetimes,but she is very high energized,,lol,,4yrs old going on 6mnths old,,lol,,the only bad habit she has is with the water bowl,,other than that,,she is a very good dog,,,super happy with her other than that
