I agree the location was super and probably the easiest to find and get to. The barns were super and convenient to use . They could use some tables and chairs at the concession stand . The weather could have been better but it is January. I felt that the overall number of people who were just wandering around was down . But probably one of the locations U.K.C has found.

And cheaper PRICES at the concession stand! Someone needs to let them know we are poor old coon hunters not rich fancy foo foo dog folks!

Concession prices

I agree concession stand prices were ridiculously high.

I am going to guess the price is the same for all other events held there. I never bought any think there but heard one of my friends say that he paid $5.00 for a hot dog and something to drink.

Drinks

Drinks alone were $2.50

Had a great time. Enjoyed seeing everyone. The town of Batesville needs to talk with their merchants. Our hotel was $109 a nite for this weekend. The clerk told us that if we were there 2 weeks ago it would have been $62 and some change a nite. They upped the price for this weekend and had signs on all the entrance doors that said if they caught a pet in a room you would be charged an additional $120. Thought they said it was a pet "friendly" hotel. Overall though it was an enjoyable hunt. Congrats to all the winners.

Yall should got to Vegas and see what they charge for a Pepsi and hotdog ... I about fainted every single time.

Ya, our hotel cost $107 a night but that's not unusual something Known as event pricing . All in all as a whole very convenient location. Was disappointed in dog sales the worst I've ever done, but did get to connect with a lot of old friends which is whats it's all about anyway. Missed the warmer Ga.weather but didn't miss the drive.

Agreed....hopefully they will get a grip on their overall prices. We paid that for rooms as well.

again....I will do my part with the local

government next year to work on those issues.
vendor prices at concession stand might be out of my reach of workings. I am sure that is what it is. If they have a monster truck event, rodeo etc thats what it will be. If you have been to a college football game or basketball game or any kind of event that is the going rate. What about a movie? same thing.
Room prices is something I will speak up about. I have a friend that is the head writer for the local newspaper and He sits in on every city planning meeting. He is a bulldog. I will sick him on it.
I agree that everybody price gouges for events, but I sure want us to be something different here.
I know I talked with someone who is friends with one of the local restaraunt owners and he was blown away with the business he got. he had to ad another cook just for those few days.

absolutely...that is how progress is made

talking about the issues and then doing something about it.
If I have to run for city council and get it fixed...well ill just do that. haha
It was awesome for me. It was an answered prayer. Batesville was just a nice little town when I bought land down here about 20 years ago. I got ready to retire and the Lord just flat out blessed me.
He put me a tractor supply in town and a lowes....and blessed me with a wonderful spirit filled church...and then low and behold, He brings me the Winter Classic....now I am telling you the truth, I am the coonhunter God Loves.

Thank you Lord....oh yea....my place just happened to have several super nice coonhunters that live right around the corner from me. I can ride a 4 wheeler to their houses and one of them has land right across the road from me and he gave me a key to it when I was out on the road trimming trees when I first moved down here. Now tell me I am not blessed.

Dont get me to start praying for the UKC world championship to be here, Ill be hitting an Rqe before you know it. haha

To answer some of y'all's concerns.
Concession prices were TOO HIGH! I agree with that totally. I don't think that will be changed. They bid out the concession stand every year and those prices are the same for every event. It is in their contract that no one else is allowed to sell food on the grounds.

Hotel prices can be addressed by the Batesville Chamber of Commerce. They were supposed to talk to them about the hotel prices. I guess the talk didn't work. We pay over $100 for our room every year in Richmond, IN at Autumn Oaks.

Camping spots are supposed to be improved. Batesville is supposed to add more hook ups before next year. It was too late to get that accomplished this year. I know people like to camp on the grounds, but there are some great State Parks nearby.

I hope everyone had good nights in the woods. I tried to make sure that all of the guides that I lined up were going to good spots and would be far enough away from other casts to keep them from getting mixed up. Several casts here treed 3-6 coons on their casts. 3 coons are good. 6 coons are great.

If you have any concerns, you can email me at medicman_stark@yahoo.com.

I hope everyone had a great time and will come back again. I hope the Winter Classic will stay here for a long time. I think everything went well, being the first time we have had a large hunt here. I know there are improvements to be made. As for the weather, it is 65 degrees here today. If you don't like the weather in MS, stick around. It will change soon.

GOD BLESS!!!

I was thrilled to find out the 'Winter Classic' was coming here to Batesville and now I can say I am glad they did. I spent Friday and Saturday walking and talking to the people and looking at the many dogs they had there. If anyone was having a bad time, they didn't show it. There seemed to be smiles everywhere.

I'm 60 and disabled and I made it a point to talk to the people that were walking slowly and/or using a cane and they all made the same comment. There needs to be a ground level entrance. Those stairs will get the best of you.

Had a great week end. I hope the 'Winter Classic' comes back next year and all you coonhunters get your friends and neighbors and come on back. Happy Huunting

I agree it was a good place. Discussion not complaining. Our group also though the consession stand prices were a little steep. The hotel's were way to high. I travel and stay in hotels for my work. We called 4 hotels and they were higher than the same name hotels we stay in all the time. We went to John Kyle State Park and paid around $ 80.00 per night for a cabin.

The people we meet were great people. The food in town and service was great.

Winter Classic 2013

I had a great time & thought the facilities were outstanding.. there was plenty of room where the vendors were at.. the stadium seating was really good.. you could just chill and see the entire arena and you could see the bench show very well. The entrance for the handicap was @ each end of the stadium.. maybe it should be designated for easy viewing from the entrance gate.. I also thought the dog barn was set up really good.. speaking about motel rooms.. I got my rooms several months out & I paid 236.00 for three nights @ the Ramada Limited.. very nice people.. This was a big change especially for the locals.. as they realize the potential boost for their economy and the positive press for their township I'm convinced there will be some impressive adjustments coming. JMO "The concession prices are close to normal for these types of events based the location & facilities". Good job UKC I hope the feed back is more positive and the administration works out the negative as we look toward to 2014...

I thought the Classic was top notch! My family and I had a great time. The civic center was an outstanding facility for the event. There was plenty of room for vendors and shows. I really didn't think too much about concession prices because it seems that way in a lot of places. I did what I always do. If its too high I go eat elsewhere. If they don't have people buy it they may come down to a more affordable price for the average family. I hunted both nights and the guides and judges done a good job. The whole deal seemed to have went very smooth. UKC guys done an outstanding job getting that many hounds lined out to hunt and in a timely manner. Myself and several others I spoke with at the hunt are sure hopeing the Classic is home at Batesville Mississippi for years to come! This was their first year and it was really good so let's give them credit and see how much better it will get. Great job UKC and the town of Batesville Miss. !
