World's Largest Army?

Received this from nancy Winton - we need to get this in EVERY NEWSPAPERnationwide!

The world's largest army? America 's hunters!

December 6, 2010

I spend many of my fall weekends tramping around the woods in pursuit of a buck,
as do a lot of my friends.

This blogger adds up all the hunters in just a handful of states, and comes to a
striking conclusion:

The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season
without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest
army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and
Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of
Pennsylvania this week. Michigan 's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia , and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

His point? America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security. Now, I wonder why a lot of congressional members and liberals want to ban firearms?

*************************************************

I love my country.

God Bless America !

Great news. Considering this, lets cut our military budget by 90%. Then we will have enough money to rebuild our roads, schools, everyone can have healthcare, granny can retire at 65 [and get new dentures and glasses]. And we could pay off our national debt.
And we could end our "let's kill 'em over there so we don't have to kill 'em here" policy. And start our "kill 'em here" policy. No need to fly/ship our military personnel all over the world anymore. Save some more expenses there too.

Just thinking

I read somewhere that one of the reasons the Japanese did not invade our mainland during WWII was because they knew our citizens had weapons and would just pick off invaders one by one.

I'm STILL worried about the government taking our guns as they keep making more & more restrictions.
We need to "Vote those bums out!"

You are hilarious but seriously. Sounds to me though that the point is that our US of A has what amounts to a 'ready to defend itself' citizenry and that is a great asset for national security as a deterrent. The real issue is there is no coordination or leadership of this potential force. An army of people from youngsters to elderly hunters does not constitute a ready army. In our colonial days the frontier folks and militia system was organized by local colonial leaders. These were folks who had much experience using their weapons to defend their homes and expand our country(for better or worse they had available native targets and were used to killing if need be). Not many of our hunters are going to be fully ready for the conditions of a war. Germany drafted a homeland defense force as the Allies pushed from France on into Germany made up of older veterans, those who could not meet the regular army qualifications and teens. Those troops were not much resistance after the Battle of the Bulge offensive and the Allies moved on in at a steady rate. My guess is that a lot of them had not had much firearm experience until they were drafted and then it was not much training until they were on the battle front.

Point is that our country needs to go back to a military draft so our youth develop some life ability and learn not to let their pants hang off their arse. Deferments for college and special cases could still be a part of the program. To many young people in this country wasting their potential and useless to the bigger picture, not all of them but way more than we should let slide by.

Folks, you need to understand sarcasm when you see it. This post was making fun of the original comment. Got it!

Liked seeing that PA has the most hunters, but that number is dropping. A few years ago, we had over a million. But, a lot of these are so-called city slicker hunters that are in the woods one day a year (first day of deer season).

I understand sarcasm as good as anybody but I also recognize someone who doesn't understand the world we live in. Truly and I have had many a battle on here in the last few years. Unless he's always playing devils advocate, I know perfectly well where he stands and it doesn't fit with the vision this country was built on. If the majority of people in this country thought like he did we would lose our rights that keep us free faster than you can say Karl Marx.

JOHN'S sarcasm???(or truth)- follow truly's advise to the utopian mythical commie dream(not the reality of commie dreams)... put 100's of thousands out of work in the industrial/manufacturing sector, maybe millions, along with all those directly or indirectly employed in guaranteeing our sovereignty and national safety.
let anyone and everyone come in to freebootingly LOOT the hard won wealth of this nation- of course this is in competition with the already existing collectivist left in these borders and their looting and proposed looting- thereby leaving less for all. the REAL, LOGICAL goal of the left(communists) acheived AGAIN----
DEATH and deprivation to all humans.

WAKE UP.
"all we are saying, is give peace a chance"- through strength (i.e. stay the hell of my lawn)- the ONLY thing that has mattered throughout history.

p.s. i ain't tired.

Hey Skyblu,

Merry Christmas,
I bet we would be suprised if we knew exactly how many firearms are in the US everyone on my street has several per house hold, and in my Comunity lord knows how many are in our town and county, and its not even a drop in the bucket compared to the State of Texas, much less the entire county.
I collect some early World War 1 Bolt action rifles, and spend alot of time looking at firearms from diferent dealers, some I order for myself.
The way I heard of it, after Pearl Harbor, was bombed, a Jap officer wanted to invade the mainland, he was told that all we have done is to awake the sleeping giant, to atack the mainland would be suicide, because there would be a "Rifle behind every blade of grass"

You've "got it right." Now I remember reading the story as you stated it and I hope the truths in it will help to keep our freedoms and to keep us safe. Sometimes it seems like the politicians are taking our freedoms without ever firing a shot.

I WILL GIVE A BIG AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are one of the first that agrees with me on that........ If everyone had to send there kids over there then there would be more that wasn't so afraid to defend this country right here at home though.

I wouldn't cut the military by 90% though. I wouldn't start the draft either. I would make every kid go to the millitary for 2 years when they turn 18. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!! except for the handicaped...........

Maybe if the Liberal media and the Liberals running our schools and history classes actually told the truth and taught ACTUAL AMERICAN HISTORY, instead of belittling and degrading our country and it's founding more American youth would sign up to defend it and not have to be drafted.

We currently live in a country controlled by Liberal idealism....They don't want American history pre 1900 to be taught in High Schools.

The Pledge of Allegiance is outlawed in many schools.

Bedwetting, Liberal leaning, self professed "Progressives" in our colleges blame America for every problem in the world known to man.

Is there any reason our youth dont see the need to defend and protect this country??
Look at who they overwhelmingly voted for in the last election..A Terrorist supporting MARXIST.

Forcing our youth to go into the ,military will backfire. it has in other countries as well.

Germany, Russia, and Israel come to mind.

Skyblu, you are kidding right? To call hunters an army in the military sense.
Hunters may be an army in the sense of a large group with a common interest, but believe me: we are not a military unit or even a loosely knit militia.
Wars are fought with gas masks, metal detectors, IR, NVG's, and other high tech devices. Threats from chemical, biological, and nuclear sources always defeat guns and bullets. This isnt the beginning of the last century.
And for the pundits like Truly, well you just dont have a clue. We are literally on the brink. Too many modern economies are failing or close to that point. Even the U.S. economy has seen some very tough times and we have a rough road ahead to say the least. Outlooks are not nearly as rosey as some reports would like you to believe. Listen to any newsmedia,,,left, right, centrist -- it doesnt matter....times are not good. We are on the edge, and it wont take much to go over.
Pray!

Truly is right about the need to cut the Federal budget, just not the Military part of it. You get what you pay for and we get our monies worth out of a strong Defense. But what worth do we get out of giving the savings away to deadbeats and nowhere programs?

I say cut the budget and don't give the savings away, Pay our debt with it.

CoonCaptain, I agree with everything you said except the first part. Learn the lesson of Vietnam, we lost 50,000, Vietnam lost in excess of 1,000,000 in a country the size of Minnesota and still prevailed. Technology is no match for a people determined to defend their homeland at any cost, and it don't hurt that we are armed to the teeth.

Bandithunter: Vietnam was lost in DC, not on the battlefield. Also, we lost it on the streets here by a bunch of draft dodging, college going rich kids(hippies), while the poor boys fought, then got spit on when they got back. Also the media definately made ill use of their cameras and reporters. And we lost over 58,000 of our brothers and sisters, not 50,000.

The lesson of Vietnam is dont tie the hands of the military and dont let fat politicians fight the war,,,,they are not warriors, they are liars and thieves.

The one good thing that we have seemed to learn is to treat our uniformed people with respect when they get back. We do that now, thank God. It sure didnt happen back then.

sky blue had the chance to say she didn't write that article however it's been around for a while and has been revived and circulated over the internet once again i got it 2 weeks ago and again last week the only change is the opening sentence.
but i agree that japan would have tried to over run us at home if the knowledge of armed citizens wasn't known around the world.
as far as truly i really don't know how he thinks it sure isn't the way americans think lets talk about government insurance we all have it at retirement but if in the last 6 months thats all i had i wouldn't be here i was notified 2 months ago that my cancer bill of plus 200000 dollars was at the limit strange part was my private insurance paid a large potion of that bill if i didn't have the second insurer my treatments would have stopped. the minute the gov. gets involved the cost sky rockets as they need helpers for the helpers that administer the programs
