I don't understand why somebody would pay big big bucks for a dog that has already won so much. The fun to me is making a good top notch dog not going out and buying one that already is. It would be easy matter of fact extremley easy to have a huge winner or even 4 of 5 big time winners if you have 30,000 40,000 50,000 grand to shell out for each one. Then what kills me is they will shell out the money just to get the dog in there name and not even hunt with the dog ever. Just keep the same handler, amazing.

Its all bout money. What is BIG BIG MONEY? He's going to get promoted. Now he needs to win the big one (World)

If he reproduces, think about it.

$400.00/breeding 5 days/week 52 weeks/year 6-9 years = $780,000.00. That is if you use 7.5 years of breeding.

That doesn't even consider once breeding traffic increases raising the price/breeding, or frozen semen.

Maybe....But, name ONE dog that is breeding that much right now?

I will bet that him buying half of him had nothing to do with money (making money that is). He wanted a winner that's the bottom line. Price had little or nothing to do with it.

I agree.

Expecting a return when it comes to coonhunting is foolish, and generally speaking, fools dont have that kind of money.

Posted by Larry Atherton on 11-19-2009 05:00 PM:

Josh,

I seen it with Sackett Jr. I would go over Mr Gidding's house. He would say it is time to turn on the phone. He would turn it on and it would start ringing.

Yes, 99.99% of the dogs out there do not have that potential, but when one comes along ohhhh baby!

So with an average litter of 8 we can expect 15,600 MOJO pups on the ground by 2016. Sounds realistic......LOL.

Ron,

My post was just to demonstrate potential. It wasn't meant as a prediction. Geeze, it isn't like I am predicting health care cost here.

Sackett Jr was probably the last stud dog with the potential to breed even half that much, and he has been dead over 10 years.

Larry, If you find my logic flawed, just tell your wife your going to buy a $50,000 stud dog and run those numbers by her, Im sure she will share your enthusiasm.

All in fun.....

Posted by Larry Atherton on 11-19-2009 07:39 PM:

Josh,

Logic and potential are two completely different animals.

Even if I thought the $$$$$$$ was there nope no way! I don't even think the boss would go for that in a New York second. At one time I could have gotten a 6 figure job, but it would have meant a minimum of 10 years of travel. We both decided in the long run it wasn't worth it.

I seen what the stud dog business can be and I don't want any part of it!!!!!!!!

By the way my hats goes off to all those brave souls who try to promote a stud dog ... ya'all have more mettle than me.
