Hunt Director / Master of Hounds

Explain the differences- benefits of using either one?

The difference is a master of hounds has more authority then hunt director.If there is a problem in the field when its brought back the master of hounds can take care of,If its a hunt director he will have to form a panel to address a major problem.The hunt director was put in place by UKC to help the clubs to help with the cost with the clubs struggle,A Master of hounds can't have a dog in his name entered in a hunt he is a Master Of Hounds At.Hunt director can have someone handle a dog where he is taking care of the hunt.

Thanks for the quick response. What are the requirements to name someone either HD or MOH ? And if I'm correct- neither can actually hunt a dog in the hunt?

A Master Of Hounds Is Licensed By UKC,A hunt director is someone the club can get from the membership

A dog owned by a MOH cannot be hunted in the hunt. A hunt director's dog can be hunted in the hunt but the HD cannot hunt. A MOH must serve as an apprentice under MOH's and pass a test then they will be issued a license number. Anyone can serve as a hunt director. A hunt director will appoint a 3 person panel of qualified (knowledgeable of the rules) in the case that a question arises. HD does all the duties that a MOH does except rule on questions alone. They are responsible for taking entries, over see cast draw out and calling of casts and all paperwork. A HD may be on the panel they appoint unless there is a conflict of interests like their dog is in cast that has a question to be heard before the panel.
