Question Pertaining to Flea and Tick Medication and Dog Food
Is it safe to use Bravecto along with a Soresto collar for extra protection from ticks. The vet I typically used stated it was but just want other opinions. Tick borne diseases such as Eurlichia and Lymes is bad in this area and I have used numerous oral preventatives religiously and dogs still contract the diseases. Is there a risk of the dog becoming overheated as a result of the extra medication? My dog was given both beginning Friday and also a change in a new dog food due to his inability to maintain a steady weight. The dog food I believe is a 32/25 Sport mix CanineX. I noticed tonight with slightly warmer temperatures on 2 out of 3 trees he only treed for a couple minutes and stopped. He never left but was staring up in the tree not moving when I located him. I noticed he had done some excessive chewing. The trees were chewed more then usual leading me to believe either the medication or the new food is making him overheat.
Medicine
I noticed just using the collars that I would find my hounds over heating. Took them off and they were back to normal in a day. Bravecto is a good medicine, but after 30 days it does not deter the lone star tick which carries the diseases. I switched to Simparica and have to give it every 30 days. But it is working and I am in an area that has a lot of cases of lymes, rocky mt spotted fever and ehrichliosis.

Use the pill or the collar and a good spray before you cut the dog and when you load him back up.

Simparica, in my opinion is the only way to go. Once a month absolutely no ticks or fleas has been my experience. Supposed to kill ticks very quickly.
