Garmin T5 ? Bruce

I have a few extra antennas a couple being longer than id like. I have read that they can be cut an would not effect tracking? is this true? if I have a antenna for a t5 collar lets say I have an antenna that's 24" can I cut it an make it 18" if so do you know that it will work correctly?

I can test it I guess but id rather hear from some folks who may know or have tried cutting to desired length before!!

.

Antennas are designed to be a certain length due to the frequencies of the product they are designed for. I wouldn't think someone designing a product would add 4 inches of cable to every collar sold if it wasn't needed for the average application. If Garmin cut 4 inches off every antenna they make they could save well over a million

I think testing would be your best bet. Hang a collar on a bush about the height of a dog. Drive away in all 4 directions and see what you get in range. Then drive back and see where you pick it up at. Then cut 4 inches off and see what happens. People that design this stuff use meters that tell them several different things. Your test can only be determine but a few tenth of a miles difference one way or another.

In every T5 and TT 15 box garmin adds a shorter antenna. That antenna is designed for shorter range usage. Cut yours off and that will be what it is designed for. If you don't need all the range you can get you should be fine.

I have a question, if you hang a collar and drive wouldn't it always show where it is at? Wouldn't it be better to have someone drive off with the collar to see how far you can pick it up?

It will show you when you lose and pick up signal..
I always have mine stationary and hanging low the height of a dogs neck when testing range.
