Breed Hunt Winners

Over the last several years I have payed close attention to the breed hunts and the winners.

When a breed holds its own breed hunt and few to none place in the hunt do you think its fair to say the breed is a lost cause and going down the tubes?

I don't think its a lost cause.....but I would blame the breeders as a whole....but definitely something is wrong if a breed can't compete @ its own breed hunt. JMO.
If u keep doing something the same and expect a different result ....That's insane !!!

people trying to get the dogs of yesterday from todays dogs by breeding to something that goes back to one of those dogs in the 5th generation and hoping for the best... thats all a lot of the bluetickers know imo thats why the blue breed has not progressed the way they should... breed this to that and get junk... well lets try it again and see if we get a different result. it seems to be this way with a lot of "off colored" breeds

its sad to say bc i myself am a bluetick man without a doubt, but somethings gotta give

Hoosier, I'm guessing you are referring to the Plotts and Leopards. Those two breeds win very little, even at their own Breed Days. But I think the reason for that lies far more with the hunters than with the breeders. The hunters of those two breeds are mostly uninterested in Nite Hunt results. They don't train for competition, they don't hunt in competition hunts much and they don't care who or what is winning. The breeders are doing a good job at breeding for what they want and what they want IS NOT a competition type of coondog. So I don't see a failure in those breeds at all.

If you go to a Plott or Leopard Breed Day, you will notice that most of the coonhunters there are pleasure hunting at night instead of entering the Nite Hunt. They are pleasure hunters and THAT is what they breed for.

Both of those breeds have some who work at the Nite Hunts and a few of them do produce winners.
