A friend of mine that likes to competition hunts has talked to me about splitting a good coon bred plott pup with him. Now my question is why are they so few plotts performance sires? Sure is hard to find a plott pup that has the looks and breeding that we are looking for that are performance nominated. Hard to sell a walker pup that isn't performance nominated. Must not be that way with plotts.

There are relatively few plott dogs that are performance sires mostly because there a fewer plotts in general. I bought a female that is both SS and performance, but had to get on a list months in advance. Most plott guys don't breed their female every time they come in heat to the flavor of the month stud dog just to sell pups and most of them aren't too concerned with winning nite hunts. Think about this; The Plotts on the top reproducer list usually have less than 300 pups lifetime compared to 2500-5000 on the Walkers for comparison. Why would anyone spend a bunch of money on 'programs' if they are only going to breed 2-3 females a year and most of the pups never see a hunt?

If you are inclined to get on a list, I think you could find a pup that is performanced nominated without too much trouble. There are several dogs on the 'Plott stud and kennel promotion' classifieds that are performance. GrNt Post Oak Thunder comes recommended by several folks and the one I bought is off GrNt Heyzuess which are both perfomance sires. Good luck in your search.

Have to agree 100%. Very few listed in Coonhound Bloodlines as performance sires. Through the years I have hunted with some good plotts and know they are out there. Seems if they are worth studding they should be worth paying up.

if u find a plott any count for competition see if they will sell it and then let me know cause i have been looking for one for the last couple years. remember from old tarzan movies about the elephant graveyard? welll......i know where the plott graveyard is....bahahaha!
be sure just as w/other breeds find out what that superstud has throwed and is throwing. even more important ask about the mother...a good plott female is worth her weight in gold. about as rare as hen's teeth.
not to throw off on the plott breed at all cause that is my favorite but most people hunting other breeds will not be satisfied w/a plott, they r a different critter. u might run into one in a hunt once in a while but very rarely will they be up to most competion hunter's standards. it is just a fact about the breed. but best of luck in your venture into the world of the rare and curious!

I would super stake my male if there were enough people wanting to breed to him. I just super staked a litter of pups for me and friends, a couple were going to guys that hunt walkers that really like my dog . they used to say things like you're hunting a plop and now they say that's the guy hunting a good dog that is a plot. but I had bad luck and lost to many pups.
