i think i messed up could this be fixed

I think i messed up on my dog he dont stayed treed long i think instead of treeing on sent hes looking. What i do sometimes is mess with him with a coon hide in a tree and he can see it and i let him bark at it and when we are out hunting i sometimes catch him looking in trees. I think when he dose tree on sent he looks up the tree and even if there is a coon up there and if he cant see it i think he must loose intrest and goes to find another track could this be fixed

this is the only way i know how to do it! stope showing him the hide in the tree you need to hide it when you do drags but try this and trust me its gonna take alot of time but you can bring him out of this try to find you a field that has a tree in it or if you dont the woods are alright take a caged coon wet it down like crazy turn the coon aloose hide the trape go get the dog put him on the coon scent turn him aloose and run like hell with him when he hits the tree and starts to tree leash him and tie him up get him excited as you can get him when he gets to treeing good walk off and turn your light off and just sit down and wait give it about 15 menutes 30 menutes i would do 30 then go into him praise him good then pop ol bandit out to him after a couple time of this he should be out of the eye phase also after the first one give the coon about a 30 menute head start then work up to an hour

Personally I'd say get rid of it! Start over and next time show it one caged coon...turn it loose in front of him...shoot it out dead or if he runs it down or holes it, doesn't matter. From then on hunt it and it will figure it out. You already screwed that one up, possibly for good as a coon dog. You could hunt it on squrriel now and it would excel. The only reason you want to show it A coon period, (once) is because you want it to know that's what you want it to run instead of deer or fox etc. Show it ONE, that's enough!

pups

I don't fool with my pups with cage coons or scents. I just hunt them if they are Gona run and tree it is breed in them sometimes it takes some of them longer than others but when you get them trained they will be deep and alone most of the time jmo good luck with him what's the age on pup

slobbermouth is on the right track. The pup isnt reuon just dont lay anymore drags. The cage coon will work but dont over due it. Take him to the woods also by his self and turn him loose go set on a log and let him do his thing if he trees rush in to him shoot the coon out . Do it all over again but this time when he trees wait about 10 min bfore u go to him the next time wait 20 mins and keep letting him tree longer each time he trees. Dont get rid of him he will come out of it. Iv train pups all my life only bought one half train dog sense i been hunting i train all my hounds . I luv training pups if i have a hound iv trained it myself. If u got any other ? Feel free to call me at 574 306 8438
