What made your decision in a cross you bred ???

Lets be honest. A lot of hunters get star struck with a very loud over powering stylish treedog that the accuracy % may not be that good when you actually keep a true record of the results. Personally I want coondog to coondog crosses with balance in mind. Just me but if I breed it's what I strive to do. Did you hunt with sire & talk to owners of pups from different crosses or hunt with a bunch of pups that you actually could evaluate that you bred your nice coondog female to or just breed based on % numbers of NtCh &GrNTCH pups reproduced ??? Lots breed to what's hot & some breed coondog to coondog crosses only. Are you hunting the results of these crosses that are extremely accurate coondogs that are gentle as a lamb & absolutley not babbling dogs with no disposition problems & can they compete &do their part of winning ??? .Just wondering what the biggest % of wanting to see a coon everynight hunters do that may not compete every weekend or just every once in a while does.

If I can see a dogs faults becuz of its owners shortcoming I personally don't fault the dog,and believe me if it's the owners fault u can tell.
I see potential, base my decision as if I owned the dog.
What I mean is "if" I owned the dog what I could have done with it.I over look the human errors.
Titles r of very little concern when I decide to use a stud.If the dog has "IT" title r a given with time.
Don't get me wrong ther r sum worthy studs w/titles and percentages to boot.

What people say about a stud has little value in my choice of stud.I make my own mind up! And I really don't care what people say.
Remember ur talkin ta coonhuntrs!
If I can I'll hunt w/offspring first, then the stud.Best that u let the dog do the talkin lest u be found out.
In my 30+ yrs of coonhuntin I have been impressed just ONCE!

I bred to Card when Brian owned him as I like the fact between Brian Vessel and Lee Logan they hunt and train their own line. Not guys who paid big $ for a stud dog and just wanna run a puppy factory. My female was off Terry Daniels line of dogs who also bred and promoted his own.

The 1st cross I made I was new to coonhunting. I had my 1st female that I had bought based on what several breeders in my breed (bnt) had recomanded. I wanted something that I could show and could do some winning in the hunts. This was to be my foundation bitch. Just so happened many of the dogs in her PED were on the reproducers list at the time. She turned out to be a Nat'l quility show dog ( that is if I had known what I was doing). However, not a great comp. dog. She did tree coon and could finish any track. She just took to long to do it. She was track minded and would stay treed till you got there but would then peel out and was on the next track before you knew what happened. If I had her today I would never even consider breeding her, but like I said I was new to this. When she was a yr and ahalf old I was looking to buy another female. As I hunted with a female I was interested in buying I got to hunt with the owners male dog. He was the best BNT I had ever been in the woods with. So I went back and hunted with him several more times and he was the real deal. So I breed my female to this dog that really wasen't know at the time. The cross was a major sucess, 6 of the 8 pups turned out. I would go on to do some winning with the pup out of this cross that I kept. He was without a doubt above avg.
I began to look high and low for a female to breed the pup out of this cross to and came up with nothing. In the mean time I had bought a female at AO simply because I thought she was going to die there her health was so bad. She lived and I hunted the two for sometime and they were great together. They were the perfect blend and balanced each other out. I never intended on breeding the pair but over time it made the most since. She was better than all the females I had hunted with and against and he was far above all the STUD dogs out there. He was 6 when I finally made the cross and it proved to be the right choice. Once again I had a pup that I could go to any hunt and win with. At least 5 of the 9 pups turned out. I don't breed often but I try to breed smart. I only breed for myself and breed for a balanced hound. I have bought many pups to raise myself to breed to so I would know what falts they were born with. Since I raised them I knew that they were not man made falts. I have yet to breed to any pup I have bought and raised because I didn't feel they could help my program. So I am still looking for a female to breed the pup out of my last pup too, he is 3 now. I do get called often from guys that want to breed to my dogs. But they seem to be offended when I tell them I need to hunt with the dog several times before I would consider breeding. I'm not in it for the money, i'm not even in it to "better the breed". I'm in it because I love the dogs and enjoy seeing and hearing them tree coon at ease.
