Hunting Rain
Well, quiet time seemed way too long this year, and Rain and me still need to tone up some muscle.
Last night after baseball I decided to take Rain hunting. Left the house at 10:00 pm and cut loose on the 1st drop at 10:49 pm. It took Rain only 2 minutes to strike. At 11:08 pm she rolled up on a tree. It took me less than 1 minute to find that coon. Next drop was north of the big cat-tail swamp. Cut Rain to the northeast at 11:19 pm. She open right away and slammed a tree at 11:22 pm. She had coon number 2. She was acting very hot. She is definitely not in shape yet. So I took her to a levy and gave her a quick dip. I saw two huge coons sitting up there. Next drop we headed south. I cut Rain to the west. She hit another real quick track and tree. Cut her loose at 11:35 pm, and she treed at 11:38 pm with coon number 3. I wanted to head closer to home for the last drop. I cut Rain to the south on a dried up creek bed. I cut her at 11:59 pm, and she opened at 12:02 am. She slammed another tree at 12:09. She had another coon in this tree for a total of 4 coons/4 drops. There seems to be plenty of coons this year even though I surprised that we didn't tree any kittens last night.
I called it a night. By the time I drove home and wrapped up a couple of chores and crawled into bed, it was 1:35 am. I swear 7:15 am comes quicker now than it did 10 years ago.

Seems to be a lot of coon here this year as well. I have had people catching coons in traps all spring and relocating them. In a normal year I may get 6 or 8 gave to me, this year I have already had 20 or more and I have another to pick up this evening.
This will make the 4th one my buddy has caught on his porch and he lives within city limits.

Jim,
She is my 16 year old son's dog. He actually suffers from poison ivy much worse than I do so he tries to avoid summer hunting. I am sure the fact that he recently got his license to drive has no reflection on him going to a friends house instead of out sweating and swatting mosquitoes with dad.
I am hoping to put the necessary polish on her to really make her something special. I should give my son the bill for all the 5 hour Energy drinks I have been buying and drinking.lol

Larry, do not turn in that bill. I know you put a good foundation together with your son. It will pay off for you in the end. I know first hand. With my health issues, my son is putting some real hard hunting on our hounds. He is making it look like I should be getting a bill.
