Laid up all summer..?

Ok, I know, I'm weak...

Been considering leaving a pretty good prospect in the pen until the weather breaks in the fall. I've got some pups to mess with- yard training, maybe a little boat hunting, etc...
But I'm wondering how much it's gonna set a young dog back (if any) assuming I put him up until September or so. He's about 20 months old, trees coons regularly and has been since last fall.
Any thoughts?

i would atleast try and go 1 drop a week i think u would much rather spend the best part of season enjoying him instead of tuneing him back up jmo

cant learn any bad habits in the pen, i dont think it will hurt em. but i would cut em loose every now an then just let em run a little. keep em in shape. with all the leaves on the trees now its hard to find the coon so if you cant see it how you gonna know if the dog is right or not. i myself have cut way back on hunting just for that reason. dont wanna make a slick treeing idiot because i let em tree on nothing. jmo

I've hunted harder in the summer for the last 10-15 years than I have in the winter. This is the worst May- early June I've seem as far as heat and drought. I'm just not much enjoying hunting this weather, and I feel like I'm doing this particular dog more harm than good...

if the dogs treeing its own coon without help and has the right blood ,you can leave it tied up till season comes in or it cools off to where you feel its not to hot for the dog..

you shouldnt have to worry about any tuning up even if you only hunt it 1 time a year from now till it dies of old age...

now if it has some of that other kind of blood,
that may be a different story ,
i hear that them kind have to be hunted 5-6 times a week to remember how to tree one on sat. night,,lol
