The gators and snakes were still out last week. The guy that I was hunting with got his dog bit by a rattlesnake and I saw 2 gators in a small pond. This was in the Gainesville area.

They say gators don't eat if the water temp is below 75 degrees because their stomach can't digest. However, whats to stop a gator from killing something and stuufing it his hole till it warms back up? I have never lost a dog to gators but I have had some close calls. Generally, I only get to hunt Nov to March and feel fairly safe even though I see them out all winter. I hate them. They are too many and too big as compared to when I was a kid.

Hasn't really been cold enough to slow them down yet. Dont believe all that crap yoou read about not eating below 75. We lost a dog Valentines night, Feb 14th, 2007, in water temps well below 75. The night weather was in the 40's and had been for several days. Anyway we have been at it for a few weeks now down here. The idea is to try and cut the dogs in the areas least likely to hold BIG gators. We do a lot of scouting and talking to deer hunters. As far as snakes go I havent seen any this year. The last Eastern Diamond Rattler was about three years ago. That is the only snake I/we worry about.
