Beginner looking for advice and maybe some just general knowledge

Ok to start off me And some of my buddies run hogs I'n Texas and i stumbled on to this sight looking at mt currs. But we have been contemplating squirrel dogs and maybe even coon dogs but we know nothing about em, those small dOgs look really neat and seem to have alot a hunt to em. What does a sure enough squirrel dog worth? Do feist tree coons too? Can they do both? So does your dog tree the squirrell and u shoot it? How many dogs do u run at one time? I have a mt curr he is a pig dog and a good one at that, what's the advantage of a mt curr over a feist? What is a feist?

I think you asked too many questions at once Zack. You scared everyone off from answering because they would have to write pages to cover all that. If you spend some time reviewing all the threads in this forum and checking out the classifieds, all the answers are there. After you have researched that a little more, if you still have a question post it and I'm sure someone will be able to help you. Good luck!

????

Yes a lot of questions! but I understand your excitement and wanting to know answers.

There are a lot of great dog folks on this board as well as others that can guide you in the right directions.

Don't know what part of Texas you are from but one of my buddies hunts hogs in Texas and he has several dogs from me that he uses on hogs that I used on sq and coon.

These are very versatal dogs and are bred for big game but I have used them on sq and coon for 20 years and like them but they still perform their intended task when ask of them.

Here is Dee's Website! Check him out!

Here is mine!

Also check with mmorrison, nccatfisher, lfrisbie and others on this site. They have different lines of Mt curs and blackmouth curs.

Good luck!

"TREE DOGS ARE BORN NOT MADE"

Mr. Fasola gives some very good advice. I like a mountain cur for combo dogs (squirrel and coons). Yes, a feist will tree both, but for where i hunt, i like a cur better due to the fact we have alot of coyotes and a little bigger mt. cur can handle themselves better. A good squirrel and coon dog can run from 1000 on the low side to upwards of 3500-4000. Remember, most of the time you pay for what you get. Another thing to consider when buying one, is if the person will let you come hunt with the dog and try them out before buying it, then usaully they're not trying to hide anything about the dog.
