hey guys hers the deal i have a year old pup that i just satrted taking otu him will strike withe the othere dogs and tree with them every once in a while he will tree his own split tree he will strike first and tree first some times well i took him out during the day yesterday around 4 oclock and he checked the woods well no coon trcks so i had him check dens nothing so i was standing there watching him run with his noise down well he caught trak opened then ran it to a tree ran his noise all the way up the tree and around it and started tree i was proud of him well i looked up the tree couldnt find a coon or a den got to looking and he treed a squarrel lol is this a good sign some guys say they train there pups on squarrl and switch to coon it this good because i figure she is a hot noise do and at night he will just run coon how to i break him of the squirrl but is he showing good sign is it alright for him to do this right now because hes just learning well thanks for reading please reply

hey bobby

Its good that hes tree minded and can trail. I just dont like it because I believe they can tree tham at night and this will get you minused in the hunts. Some dogs Ive seen will switch to coon at night but odds are if there arent any hot coon tracks theyll grab a squirrell.

coonhunter I wouldnt think its a bad thing. I have a 3 year old male that trees squirrels during the day in my backyard. With him I'm pretty sure that he's never trailed them when I'm in the woods at night, but everydog is diffrent. I wouldnt punish him for the squirrel unless it gets to be a problem at night.
