The owner at the time the points are earned gets the check. Originally, the points sold with the dog, the new owner got the points and the money. They changed that around the 3rd year. Now the points stay with the the owner that won them even if the dog is sold.

My cousin bought a dog last year and randomly got a performance check for over 200 bucks. He didn't even know the dog had any wins, because he didn't competition hunt at the time. He called the office to make sure it was sent to the correct person and they said yes.
