I have never used scent drags, nor do i plan to in the near future, because I don't see how a person could possibly reproduce the scent of a live animal. I start and train my dogs on coon.

When you use a drag there's a problem

There MUST be a reward at the end of the track in order to develope the desire to follow the track.. IF YOU USE A DRAG - WHAT IS THE REWARD?
No incentive - no desire to follow the track.

I like to use a fresh hide don't leave it in the tree , pup should only need a good petting for reward when treed if you feel you need to reward the pup with something else clap your hand drop hide out of the air , most well bred pups want and are bred to tree , I purchased a female was almost two while back she would split and hold pressure and had never seen a coon untill I gave her one , she look at the coon got back up on the tree and started treeing , hope that helps.
