Heartworm Treatment Aftercare???

For all you guys that have had a dog treated for heartworms...
How long after they tested negative did you wait for activity or hunting?

I had one treated with a sheep wormer pill for two weeks and then retested, and the dog tested negative for all worms including all adult heartworms and microfilia. Now my question is.. How long do I need to wait until I should start hunting a little to get him back in shape? I know it is possible some of the adult HW's could be still floating in the blood stream and have a possible clot thrown, but how long is safe to wait? Thanks.

I have a hound that was treated for heartworms. My vet said no activity for 3 months. The heartworms die very slowly and to much running could cause a heart attack or stroke. They absorb the worms as they die slowly.
The good news is my hound came through it fine and you would never know he ever had them..

Yeah I heard that BB. I have read usually 6 weeks is the earliest. Just wanting to make the B&T days hunt Dec. 11th and didn't know if I was pushing it or if that was a realistic possibility. Dog took 2 weeks of pills. Tested negative and now on interceptor again. It's been 4 weeks since the start of them. Heard the dead ones can still float around for a month before all absorbed.
Any other opinions?
