Todd, who sets the requirements for degrees?
Hi Todd,
With all the talk about championships and titles lately, it got me wondering.
How would changes to the requirements ever be decided?
Can changes to degree requirements be submitted to and voted on by our breed organizations?
Or are these set solely by UKC?
I can see a big cost difference between rule changes and changes to the degree program. For rule changes, you just have to print new rule books. You do that anyway.
Degree program changes on the other hand would probably require modifications to UKC software. I can see where UKC might object to having costly changes imposed on them by an external organization.
BTW, I seem to remember a change to the degree program in the late 70's I think. Didn't it used to be you could get championship points even if you weren't the winner of your cast? Or am I dreaming?
Thanks,

bruce the way it went if i remember right , was high scoreing cast winners placed ,then high scoreing dogs filled the 1-10 places.
example a cast i was on had 4 dogs.
1 minused out=walker dog
cast winner =was 1st placed dog=walkerdog
5th place =b/t
7th place =my walker female
this was my first night hunt and was told later that my female would have had 1 st place if she had been handle by a comp. handler....they called her grandma as she was 4yrs old and the rest were 1 1/2 or under.

Would still like to hear from UKC on this one.

Changes regarding title requirements are made solely by UKC. We do welcome input and probably wouldn't consider a change unless it had the blessing of the breed association and the majority of the hunters in the sport. Never say never though. It could happen.
