Right to Retrieve - Oklahoma?
Is the right to retrieve in effect in the state of oklahoma as of 2009? Please dont answer unless you have read up on it this year....I just got a gun stuck in my face, and I want the know the law....
Straight from the Oklahoma Website
It is a crime to hunt on another person's land without their permission. If you want to retrieve your hunting dog from someone else's land then you will not be guilty of this crime. However, if you enter onto their land without permission, then you will most likely be committing a trespass. In addition, the owner of the land may be alarmed at your presence and might think that you are hunting on their land anyways. So, if you want to retrieve your hunting dog, it is probably best that you ask the landowner for permission first.
It is dealt with in Section 4.
So your not breaking the law but you are breaking the law kinda thing. Ive had guns shoved in my face as well in Eufaula but we went to court and I won. Thats bullcrap, I always just go up to the house and ask, if they say no. Well I go around to the backside of their place and slip in really quite to get my hounds.

this was no land owner, this was a fellow that farms the land, I guess he leases the farming, he was 'running' the land for the land owner, no one lives on the property, the landowner lives 45 miles away...and I didnt cut loose on his land, I cut loose on land I had permission to hunt on they border each other....is there a right to retrieve law or isnt there? I know there was...is there still?
Matt,
Yes there is I talked to game warden David Foltz about this less than 30 days ago as Shelby and I had some problems as well. We turned loose on a place we had permission on. But the dogs crossed the fence. the land owner pulled up and told us if we needed help to call him and he could take us to the back of the place. I told him I will walk the border fence and get my dogs. After all that was done he threw a fit and told us not to be on there again. and then 3 or 4 days later I get a call from David Foltz saying that he accused us of tresspassing! I told David the story and he said yes we do have the right to Retrieve in Oklahoma, This guy told the game warden he may shoot our dogs if it happens again, Game warden told him if he does that he needs to call a bail bondsman cause he has no livestock on the place and he cant shoot a dog unless it is molesting livestock!
Now this guy was driving around drinking beer with a loaded shotgun and I told the warden that as well. If some one puts a gun in your face call the game warden or county law! They will go to jail! If he would have pulled that shotgun on me he would have had to craped it out in Jail the next morn. Cause I take to kindly to haveing a gun pulled on me! But he didnt so it was all cool although I dont hunt any places around where this guy owns cause I dont want my dogs shot, even though it would cost him.
You can call the Game warden now and still have this guy arrested for pointing a firearm at you, if it was pointed at you.
