Richard

I did a search and found your ad for him (nice looking dog),how many pups does he have on the ground and what's the oldest? Is he LOUD?

Posted by Richard Bull on 06-14-2005 07:34 PM:

He has a few pups on the ground now. Stephen Williams in La. has them. He really likes them. Snake has a long drawn out bawl on track with a choked down bawl locate then goes into a steady short bawl on tree. His mouth carries real well, not real over-powering but clear. His track mouth sounds like a boat horn to me.

The Wheatley's Viper dog is directly out of Swamp and is in KY. Viper is in the top 5 SS sire race. I drew a pup out of him this weekend that was pretty nice. He was small like most Swamp dogs, but did not have the typical radical Swamp mouth.

I read in an article a few years back that swamp was one tough joker to break off of deer, but when broke he was tough to beat.

995 pups

32 NC
4 GS

Not bad as a reproducer either.

One of my neighbors

has one off of Viper that he likes alot.

I might would look at Hardwood Pickles also.
I don't know how he's producing but I hear he's a "COONDOG" He's moved a couple times and I'm not sure who has him now. John Vanover would know. Richard might also.

I will call John and ask him about Pickles. He told me not long ago who has him but can't remember right off. John seems to like him very well.

How is Viper and Pickles bred on the bottom?

Posted by Jeff H. on 06-15-2005 12:16 AM:

Not sure about Viper

Pickles is pac-man on the bottom side if I remember right. He's probably getting some age to him now.

not me, but this might help

If I were breeding my female to get coondogs I would breed her to Ukc Ntch, Pkc Sch Hardwood Pickles. I owned this dog and due to health problems at the time I had to sell out, but I know first hand what kind of pups he throws, NO MATTER WHAT THE FEMALE IS. No BS - Just Natural Coondogs that start early and are easily trained. He is out of NtCh Hardwood Swamp x Ukc Ntch, Nkc GrNtch Grindstone Pac-Mandy).

Call Jack May 502-477-2090 - he is one of the nicest most honest men you will ever talk to.

I believe the Viper dog is heavy House bred on the bottom. Never hunted with Swamp himself, but by most accounts was a super track dog, very accurate, and had an excellent mouth. I have hunted with about a 8 of his offspring and have really liked 6 of the 8. The one's I liked hunted out good, had excellent mouths (some had the radical Swamp mouth squall/scream/bawl on track and when they came treed sounded like someone was at the tree switching the fire out of them...radical sounding), moved any kind of track well, and had a coon. The two I did not care for were lazy hunters, but that could have been from the female?

Posted by Richard Bull on 06-15-2005 05:07 AM:

Snake has that kind of tree mouth, its like he's saying "oh my he's killing me" type of mouth. He is around 85 to 90% accurate.

Pickles

Pickles mother is off of a direct son of Pac-man and her mother is Vanover's Tenn Lady which was owned by my uncle William Vanover. She goes back to Finley River Chief 5 times in 7 generations and goes back to Johnson's Banjo around 8 times. He has a squall on the ground and has a pretty good locate and he trees with his track mouth after he locates.

Briar, just wondering, when did you own Pickles?

Cole Vanover
