Missouri Prop B - Letter to the Editor

this was in the local paper. thought this High School Student had some very good points.

To the Editor:

The November elections are approaching rapidly and there are many different items on the ballot. Proposition B is included on the ballot and I wonder if people know exactly what Proposition B is. I am a student at Boonville High School, enrolled in agricultural education classes. We have been learning a lot about Proposition B and how it will affect agriculture and animal businesses in the U.S. If I were able to vote, Proposition B would definitely be something I would vote “no” on.

The HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) plays a major roll in Proposition B. HSUS is an animal “rights” group that wants animals to have all the same rights as humans. “Animal rights” is just a saying these groups try to make people feel bad and think all animals are mistreated or neglected. HSUS believes everyone can be inflicted pain, and since a cow can feel pain and a human can feel pain, they are equal. The ultimate goal of the animal-rights movement is the complete elimination of the domestication of all animals.

Proposition B concentrates on the Puppy Mill Prevention and Cruelty Act. The purpose of this act is to stop the cruel and inhumane treatment of dogs in puppy mills by providing them the proper shelter, food, water and health care these dogs need. Proposition B also wants to stop anyone who has more than 50 covered dogs that are being bred, from selling them as pets.

*
These regulations are already set in place and if Proposition B passes, not only will dog breeding operations be shut down, but as in a domino effect, swine, dairy, poultry, beef, fish and game operations could be the next target for HSUS to go after. All farming and agricultural operations could possibly be shut down, if we let this pass.

Now it’s time for you to know the truth about HSUS. According to David Martosko, spokesperson for various front groups and the Center of Consumer Freedom (CCF) where he is the director of research, HSUS is not affiliated with any pet shelters, and they hardly give any money to pet shelters. About 0.45 percent was actually shared with local humane societies in 2008. Many people believe that the society mainly funds dog and cat shelters, when in fact it spends most of its hefty income on lobbying, salaries, and political donations.

If you have seen the television commercials that show the pitiful looking dogs and cats and felt sorry for them, then you have fallen into the trap of HSUS. HSUS runs these commercials to pull at people’s hearts, but they just want people’s money; they don’t care about the animals. HSUS is like a con-man; they pull you into their games and take all of your money before you even know what’s happening.

Now, you have to get out there and tell people about Proposition B. There are many websites that you can get more information about HSUS and Proposition B. These websites are www.mofb.org or www.humanewatch.org. I hope that your feelings for HSUS have been changed and that you will make the right choice when you step up to the voting box on Nov. 3. Vote “no” on Proposition B!

I can't really see the need for Prop B in Mo. either. They're already laws on the books that do the job and we don't need more of big brother since we already have laws for animal abuse and neglect.

Are there problems with shody kennel owners not taking care of their dogs ? YES.

Are they getting inspected already ? YES

Are they getting busted under current laws ? YES

Seems like every other week some kennel owner is on the local news about getting busted for having nasty kennels and mangy, starved animals...Should they be busted if they abuse or don't properly care for their animals ? YES

My point is , the current laws are already working and we don't need more laws. Vote no on Prop B.

But lastly I say to all ,,, Take good care of your dadgum dogs !

Interesting Debate on Prop B

This was on a riado show in the STL area on 10/11/10. An On-air debate between Anita from Alliance for Truth.com and Barbara from Yes On Prop B.com & the HSUS. I think Anita does a real good job getting the FACTS of this bill out there even though Barbara is trying to shovel a lot of crap over it.

What's the least amount of dogs can you have without being considered a licensed kennel in the state of Missouri?

Vote No On Prop B

This bill will affect everyone in ways they can't even imagine. If you raise dogs, cats, cattle, pigs, horses, or anything domestic DON'T BE FOOLED! I am so tired of these bills making it on the ballot because they have been "worded" and "misleading". They have to lie to the good people of Missouri, HOW IS THAT LEGAL? Hummmmmm why can't they man up and disclose everything WORD FOR WORD on that bill in the poor sad commercials?
No one wants to see ANY animals mistreated but this is not the answer. When will it STOP?

STAND UP MISSOURI!!!!!!! Let HSUS know that we aren't the STUIPED HICKS like they think we are! We are smart, educated, hard working, honest, caring people who aren't going to let them control how we take care of our animals.

another Letter to the Editor:

This one from a Local Veternarian:
Vote ‘no’ on Proposition B

Published: Thursday, October 21, 2010 10:19 AM CDT
As a practicing veterinarian in Boonville, a pet owner, and a livestock producer, I urge you to vote no on Proposition B (the puppy mill bill).

Proposition B is unnecessary legislation. The ballot initiative is less comprehensive and not as strict, except in space requirements, as the current Missouri Animal Care Facilities Act. The Missouri Department of Agriculture does not need more regulations, it just needs more funding to enforce the laws already in place. Proposition B provides no money for enforcement.

Proposition B will not govern the unlicensed breeders in the state. In fact it will probably force licensed breeders to become unlicensed and then not be inspected. Proposition B limits the number of dogs a breeder can own and also regulates the breeding schedule for the dogs. We don’t need more regulations that are not enforceable.

As a veterinarian, I have devoted my life to the treatment of animals and the prevention of suffering and pain. I agree there is a “puppy mill” problem in Missouri and we need to resolve it. Our state has good existing laws, but the Missouri Department of Agriculture needs more funding to enforce them, not more bureaucratic red tape.

Vote No on Proposition B.

Wiley R. McVicker, DVM

Boonville

PLEASE REMEMBER TO GO OUT AND VOTE "NO ON B"!!! THIS WILL AFFECT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US.

VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION B!!!!

I strongly urge you to vote "NO" on Missouri Proposition B. While the text and title of the Proposition sound good to the average reader, further investigation proves that the Amendment is truly nefarious and is being advanced by a radical group bent on ending Pet Ownership and Hunting. AND, NOTHING in the Amendment wi...ll truly do anything to address the puppy mill problem in Missouri.

Proposition B specifically targets those who are already licensed and inspected by the Missouri Department of Agriculture and who are in compliance with state and federal laws. It does nothing to address those who collect animals living in horrible conditions as long as the animals are not being bred to produce puppies for sale as pets.

Breeders of hunting dogs are exempt from licensing unless even one of their dogs or puppies is sold as a pet or lives inside the home of the purchaser.

I LOVE MY ANIMALS MORE THAN THEY DO! VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION B!!!!

Vote "NO" on B

Get the word out to everyone you can to vote "NO" on B. They are really putting on the ads to lie about the bill and its real purpose. Get a copy of the bill so you can see what it says. Go to SOS,Missouri-Elections: 2010 Approved Initiative Petitions. Then go to www.TheAllianaceforTruth.com.

It exempts hunting dogs but if you sell one pup that ends up in someone's house as a pet then you are covered. If you are a hobby or show breeder and have more than 10 females that are not spayed then you are covered.

The president of HSUS has stated, "I don't ever want to see another dog or cat born." He also stated "We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States."

(HSUS runs infomercials asking for just $19/mo to help animals. (That is $228 per year) Yet, less than $1.03 actually reached a pet shelter within the entire year.)

Missouri Voters Please take a little time and read this bill that is being pushed! The bill is being lied about to make it sound like a good bill that needs to be passed but the people that are for it does not have dogs or puppies on their mind! More & More lies! If you have a chance to go to one of their Prop B Debates that is being held I strongly encourge you to attend and hear all the BS for yourself. I went tonight to one in Pleasant Hope and listen to all the untruthful lies that the people for Prop B had to say! Their information they are preaching is NOT TRUE! They are tring to sell their lines of BS to people who don't know anything about this bill! To bad you can't do something about deception! These people are full of it!
