Seth do you know where this is coming from? What is the reason behind it? It might be a little easier to justify or argue against if we knew the reason.

These sorts of things always boil down to....

$$$$$$$$$$$

I would say its to make up for all the money the club lost in the kitchen last year because UKC allowed food booths on the grounds.

I believe Grand American charges to park on the grounds

Yeah $5 is not gonna make or break any of us.Its the point. In today's times we are nickle and dimed to death.Every $5 bucks counts in my world. Not sure who's ideal this was but I hope it was not UKC.

AO

I'm not at all in favor of this no matter who's idea but everyone is entitled to an opinion.I usually have 10-12 guys at my house all week and on Thursday morning we head to AO where campers have been since prior Sunday at cost of $100 per camper.i live 1 hour north of Richmond on Ohio side and buddies come from all over for AO so far I have had 4 text from guys having second thoughts about coming this year and trust me it's not the $5 it's the reason WHY.Maybe the surrounding satellite clubs should start charging UKC $10 extra per dog and $5 per truck that pulls in and we will pack them a bologna sandwich and a coke for lunch. How many cast do you think they would send to that club next year. And that is my OPINION thx for reading Lenny

Hopefully UKC will chime in, on the explanation before we jump to conclusions.

It could be a fee from UKC (but I doubt it) or the local club, or the county or the city...

Wait for Official Word From UKC

Why not wait for UKC to post "Official" info before speculating? I believe in the good judgement of UKC. We don't always know the FACTS that create decisions.

The paying to park was ukc. I don't think it's a big deal I just can't see why ukc needs to make more money than they already do

Why not they're a business. People are lining up to pay entry to these hunts to try and win a $20 trophy, some donated supplies and a lil prestige. I'd buy a 1000 shares of stock if I could, I once waited 40 minutes on the phone to give my credit card # to receive papers 5 weeks later.

They might need the extra $ to pay someone to get the hunt and show results up???

Corey may be thinking about going on strike after bluetick days!

If I was guessing, I would say GREED. Seems to be more of that now days than anything else.

Posted by deschmidt27 on 05-27-2015 08:27 PM:

Why does it have to be "greed"??? What if it's just so they (UKC, local club, whoever) can afford to put on the event? Why does everyone assume that everyone else is getting rich???

I'm not certain about Autumn Oaks, but I know folks that have put on other events, that had to purchase liability insurance. And that is very expensive. And I can imagine, if anyone looked at the jam-packed fair grounds, with people, trucks, golf carts, ATVs, dogs, kids etc. etc. then they may demand liability insurance with a high premium. So I'm just spit-balling here, but maybe that's the reason for prohibition on ATVs and parking fees. Maybe just maybe it's something like that, and folks decided that this was a better option that just telling all of us that it's cancelled!

It's just a guess, but I would like to give folks the benefit of the doubt before we start making assumptions.

And as far as UKC making more money than they already do... who is to say they make much money. If you spend anytime on this forum, you can see folks spending UKC's money all the time... they need to do this, lower the cost of that, have more personnel manning the phones, and on and on.

I'm not an employee of UKC, but I utilize their services (like this forum right now) and as a business man, I know everything costs money, and contrary to popular belief, very few businesses are making a lot of it!

Usually I would let my supervisor respond to such a thread but he's out for a bird dog trial this week; so I'll respond briefly as to what I know.

Like everyone else; we have to always try to keep our income to expense ratio in check. Yes, AO brings in a lot of income but unfortunately it comes with a huge expense also. Probably far more than most would expect.

Sometimes for the sake of not raising fees for our participants we have to look at other avenues. This is one of those. That $5 per vehicle fee will help a lot.

I'm sure for most of you, who question this fee, it is more about the principal opposed to the small fee itself; right? We understand that. However, I can assure you all that this is not a matter of taking advantage of an opportunity for the sake of greed. It is, IMO, a small fee that is well justified and for the right reasons.

Be aware that any participant; be it a vendor or someone with a dog entered in the event will receive a free pass. And that the parking fee applies to Friday and Saturday only. When you drive in on Friday you'll pay the $5 and get a pass to hang in your window. No more charges to you for the rest of the weekend.

Thanks for the response. Not sure I agree with it ...but how do we get our free pass just show the gateman our entry slip? Seth

That's the part many are missing :
If you're there to enter a dog you don't pay . The Grand American has been that way for some time .
Apparently costs are calling for an increase in entry fees OR a parking fee . Like it , of course not but I'm entering dogs so it costs me nothing extra .
