New Sectional Program Finalized

Mr. Jerrod Leathers came up with this program and has worked hard to tweak it. Below is the finalized version at least for now.
Please take a look at it as we will be introducing it at B & T Days in Wauseon to be voted on by the General Membership. We want everyone to understand what this program is and understand it. It should bring some excitement to the Sectionals and B & T Days in the coming years.
Here it is, from Jerrod.

Hello All,

Here is the finalized proposal that will be presented at B&T Days. Please come to the General Membership Meeting and vote "yes".

CHAMPIONS CLASSIC BREED HUNT

Nomination Fee- In order to qualify each dog must have a $100 nomination fee paid one week prior to the hunt. At least one dog owner must be a member of the ABTCHA one week prior to the hunt. All entries will be held in escrow by the ABTCHA Treasurer.

When and Where- Wednesday night before B&T Days 2015 at the host site. The host club will be paid $200 from the escrow account to compensate for the loss of PKC entries that typically help the host club recoup money spent on renting the grounds. The club will assist in the effort to provide 4 guides and 4 judges if needed. Each guide will be paid $50 from escrow and each judge will be paid $50 from escrow. No pay for either for the 1 hr late round. If no volunteer for the late round, a judge and guide will be drawn from a hat.

How to Qualify- Dogs may qualify as follows:

1. B&T Sectional Point Qualifier (Male)
2. B&T Sectional Point Qualifier (Female)
3. B&T Sectional Point Qualifier (Next Highest Scoring, Either Sex)
4. B&T Sectional Point Qualifier (Next Highest Scoring, Either Sex)
5. B&T Sectional Point Qualifier (Next Highest Scoring, Either Sex)
6. UKC Purina Race High Scoring B&T
7. UKC B&T Days 3 Night Cast Winner
8. UKC Youth Nationals High Scoring B&T
9. UKC Nationals High Scoring B&T
10. UKC Wld Ch B&T
11. UKC Wld Ch B&T Opposite Sex
12. UKC High Scoring B&T Autumn Oaks
13. UKC High Scoring B&T Winter Classic
14. UKC High Scoring B&T Grand American
15. UKC B&T Days KOH
16. UKC B&T Days QOH

The sectional point system works as follows: 1 point for each plus point cast win at a B&T Sectional. Sectionals taking place within 3 weeks of the first Friday of B&T Days will count towards the next year’s points. The paperwork that accompanies a Sectional will also include a form to list all plus point, B&T cast winners along with the winning score. A running total of the points will be posted to ABTCHA and UKC website weekly by the hunt chairman. If a dog qualifies in 2 categories, or does not participate, the extra spot will be filled by the next dog in line in the sectional point standings. Dogs deceased, injured, or in heat will be replaced by the next dog in line in the sectional point standings and entry fee returned as long as all reasonable efforts are made to notify the hunt chairman in time to replace the dog. Forfeited entry fees will be split evenly among the final 4. Spots may be filled on the grounds in order of the highest section point system dog present. In the event of a sectional point system tie, the first tie breaker will be the most King/Queen of Hunt wins. The second tie breaker will be most cast win points. The third tie breaker will be a coin flip.

Rules- UKC open registered rules, with the following exceptions; progressive tree countdown (2nd tree closed after 30 seconds, 3rd tree closed after 1 min) will be used, and a 2 hr early round, 1 hr late round. A dog does not need plus points to win either cast. If no winner after the 1 hr late round, dogs move into 1 hr sudden death (first dog to receive first tree plus points wins. Trees will be scored in the order they are called in the event of a split tree). If no winner after 1 hour sudden death, remaining cast members split the pot. If a dog minus’ out in the 1 hr final cast, it will receive 4th place pay, 2nd dog to minus out 3rd place pay, etc. Dogs cannot minus out during the 1 hr sudden death. Non-hunting guides and judges will be used on each cast. A 2 person panel will accompany the final cast to the woods.

Minimum Payout- 1st place $1,000. One raffle will be held for 2 weeks during the year to supplement the purse. The raffle will be held online and in conjunction with a major UKC event. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place pay will be determined after final entry fee plus raffle money calculations.

Not trying to put you on the spot Jason, but would you vote against it? If so, and you don't mind my asking, why?

Jerrod my only question is why the count down on the tree ??? Heck its UKC might as well stick with Ukc rules , but either way I like this ,

acknowledgement of the ones who have done well and but their self in the position to attend this hunt is good for the sport .

Hi Darrell, plain and simple, I think it's an improvement on the rules UKC has in place, and we have the ability to make the rules whatever we would like since this is a non-sanctioned hunt. My opinion is that if a dog gets beat to a tree by more than 30 seconds, they do not deserve the same amount of points as the dog that got beat by 3 seconds. Honestly, if a dog gets beat by more than 30 seconds, they weren't running the same track anyway, they quit what they were doing and came in to cover, and did not help any on the track. I'm not pig headed though, if the membership doesn't like the tree countdown, I'm more than willing to listen to the majority and take it out. I want this to pass and if it takes compromise, I'm good with that.

Brett, I love the idea of no leash lock as well. The nice thing about the non-sanctioned format is the membership can make any changes to the rules they would like on a year to year basis. We have total flexibility keeping this a non-sanctioned hunt.

My question is why have a membership vote? Its a non sanctioned hunt? Abtcha has nothing to do with the hunt its self, only the previous winners of sectionals.

That could certainly be done Billy. But we want this to bring excitement to the breed and have the ABTCHA stand behind this program and hopefully bring more hunters to the Sectionals.
It's always better to have the blessing of the Association than go out on your own and do something.

That was my initial opinion as well Billy. However, I realized we can make something better as a group than 2 or 3 people working on something independently. Other Association members will have ideas down the road to make this hunt better than I've had. Also, if this program is going to last and grow, I need help, and the Association is the only reliable source for that help. The pup derby and all black hunt are also non-sanctioned, and I think it's safe to say both of those programs would be dead by now if not for Association support. Also, I really do care about the lack of support we get at our Sectionals, and my driving motivation behind this idea is to increase participation at the local level at B&T Sectionals.

I think this is a GREAT IDEA,,,It's good for Sectionals and participation in major events.

What if one dog qualifies more than one time example KOH at Black and tan days,,high score at AO ..what will happen to insure 16 dogs in the hunt .

Thanks for your support Frank and good question. Here is the answer, straight from our proposal(5th sentence in):

The sectional point system works as follows: 1 point for each plus point cast win at a B&T Sectional. Sectionals taking place within 3 weeks of the first Friday of B&T Days will count towards the next year’s points. The paperwork that accompanies a Sectional will also include a form to list all plus point, B&T cast winners along with the winning score. I didn't take time to study the details here, but something needed to be done. Sectionals are gasping for a dieing breath and need help. I'd prolly keep with UKC rules myself, but it's not a big deal either way.

The folks should appreciate all the work and thought you've done and support the changes.

I'm not going to B&T days, but you folk that are should support this plan.

Thanks for the support guys, I appreciate it. It's not perfect and won't please everyone, and won't fix all of the problems associated with low attendance at Sectionals, but I think it will have a positive effect and many Sectionals will see extra B&T guys show up that wouldn't have come otherwise.

1 Question I have is why is there only 1 week before the hunt that the nomination fee has to be received?

Good question Merlin. If we have someone receiving points from a Sectional 4 weeks out from B&T Days, it is going to take 1 week at least for the hunt chairman to receive that information. So that leaves us 3 weeks out from the hunt. Then another week double checking all the numbers and notifying the owners that their dog has qualified. That leaves us 2 weeks out from the hunt. Then another week for the ones that are coming to mail us their entry fee. That leaves us one week out from the hunt. Remember, we can still take entries on the grounds the day of the hunt, from the folks who are next in line in the Sectional point standings. In a perfect scenario that would be dog #6 and on down from there.
