it would help people like myself that have hearing problems. and the judge should be the only one to have one. now with that being written i think it would cause some problems at first. i also think that club members should not be allowed to hunt in their own clubs. they should be non hunting judges.

Mine would be trackers on for reference and shockers allowed during timeout because many of us have our dogs tone broke.
No one could argue These two things would make for a safer hunt.

Im fine with the way it is right now, but there have been a few times I would like to check as GPS for safety reasons without having to withdraw to do it.
The only decent option in my mind is allowing a set amount of "power up" time and a majority of cast should agree... The GPS would be powered on to locate dogs , then shut back off after the set time. NO scoring by GPS at all.......
It might work to let handlers use their own devices at anytime, but that seems like a major distraction to the hunt imo.
Allowing only the judge to have the GPS seems like a can of worms to me. Why would a hunting judge be allowed that advantage and not everyone else?
Allowing shockers during time in is bad too.. Dogs tree a possum and get lit up before cast arrives and they leave.

Id like to see em be left on for emergency cases only. Then if you use it your still scratched. Shockers that is. I don't see a a big deal with gps systems left on anyhow. Your not going to win with one in these hills and hollers anyhow. Noooo telling how many are left on now. Just how many judges have asked to see yours??

THe problem is
Not everyone has a gps or shocker you go to the hunt all you need is a dog light and papers or a card.
I leave both collars on. Strictly for safety reasons. My handheld stays turned off and my unit stays in the truck. But both collars are on my dog turned on just for those reasons.
tracker shocker
Shocker is for trainning dog should
Be trained if he is in a hunt.
Tracker used on time out to find
Dog you can't hear. Lol

I think it would be a lot safer because I'ev had a few giudes put me in spot or two that just was'nt safe to hunt my only problem would be how could you keep peaple from calling there dogs treed from the garmin . My garmin will usullly go off treed before my dg locates.
Leaving a garmin on for safty would be ok but onley durring time out or if the guide thanks the dogs are neaar a road or in danger

garmins
if anybody can strike or tree their dog off the their garmin,is better than me.
my garmin is about 30 sec. behind my dog.
be dumb to tree your dog everytime it vibrates/beeps.
i'd like to see them used,just for question on who's dog is who's if 2 guys strike or tree same dog.

non hunting judges...lol
larry is right!!
I went to rqe in onsted,mi this past year.
3 dog cast,a non-hunting judge. plus guiding his buddy{both from that club}
ex;
plused his buddies dog on a den{could see inside,after he tore den open...lol}
"i'm a non-hunting judge,I seen the coon,you don't need to see it".i looked inside NO coon.
then added a coon to his buddy's score{in his truck}
didn't think we'd {I} notice.
4 coon seen{counting den "coon'}
but....my dog was split with 1 alone.his buddy somehow ended up with 850+ and won ENTIRE hunt.....you add it up
needles to say,i got "beat"
TRACKERS
WE HAVE GOT TO KEEP UP WITH TECHNOLOGY THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO USE TRACKERS TO MAKE OUR HUNTS BETTER ALSO MAKE IT SAFER SURELY UKC CAN FIGURE OUT A WAY TO USE THEM. "IF ALL DOGS HAVE THE SAME KIND OF COLLARS AND A NONHUNTING JUDGE HAS THE GARMIN AND HIS PURPOSE IS TO USE IT TO KEEP DOGS SAFE AND TO JUDGE IF A DOG IS MOVING OR IF A DOG GETS OUT OFF POCKET "
garmin
Is there a rule that says u have to show the judge your garmin if he ask or can u just say no i would like to know

X2 plus if a handler swears he hears his dog when no one else can (either because he is pitching or the rest of the cast is deaf because they are leading) It wouldn't take long to figure out who was right and wrong.
One thing that would have to be addressed would be the ID numbers on the collars far enough apart that someones dog wouldn't be blocked out.

It would be nice at times when the dogs haven't struck to see where they got to and maybe they are just out of hearing but if I was really concerned for the safety of my dog I will withdraw so I can find him/her. So i'm quite fine how the tracking system rule is right now.

My guess would be that half of the no votes come from people that dont own a garmin or dont attend nitehunts.
During the week there are nights when i never even turn my handheld on because im in farmiliar territory and i know how my dog hunts, but at a hunt you are cut loose without a clue about the lay of the land or where the next road is. you dont know which direction the nutcase that might shoot at your dog lives. When your dog swims a river and gets treed on the other side you dont know which way the closest bridge is.
And these are just the things that happened to me a couple weeks ago at a hunt in Pa. If i could have used the garmin we would have probably not gotten shot at and i wouldnt have had to cross that river walking a 10" gas pipe. We could have said heck no we arent cutting loose 700 yards from that highway that the guide said was 3/4 of a mile.
