-- take your wife? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928432636)

take your wife?

How many of you would life for your wife, spouse to go coon hunting with you, even if she stayed in the truck or went to the tree?.
Have you done so? How did it work out?
My wife has been going w/me for the past few times out. We had to decide what subjects are off limits. We are making adjustments. I'm not certain it's what I want but we'll see how it goes. As most of you know, things can get very hairy in the woods. What are your thoughts?

My wife likes to go for the 1st 10 mins then she's over it LOL She gets bored and wants to go in LOL i personally dont like going alone just cause the fact it does get sketchy out there and i like to have someone with me just in case, So in a pinch when no one else wants to go i drag her along LOL

Yep ive taken my better half. First time ol fred treed i took a shot at the coon and she said its starting to rain i told her no you just peed on from a coon lol

She still goes sometimes

One concern I have is the risk of the truck breaking down on a cold night. It would get very cold in a short time and even if we had a wool blanket she would become uncomfortable. Since I hunt the wilderness areas, cell phone reception is not always there.

Posted by croatankid on 10-22-2015 03:47 AM:

riverron, you sir are well blessed indeed. I can't imagine a life long relationship such as yours. A wife that never complained, really? Just kidding.
I more like hillbilly. I've been hunting for 15 years and invited mine to go with me just to look around. She never went. Then a couple of weeks ago, she decided she wanted to go. I'm still confused.

Mine used to go with me before we married and some after for a while. That stopped one night after hunting in a young pine plantation. She doesn't complain when I go and she still puts up with me after 36 years.

Bill, What did the young pine plantation have to do with it?

My wife was sent to me by the good Lord, no other women close to my age would put up with me or what I have put her through. I enjoy when she can go hunting with me and other than crossing water and filling the cab up with snacks she is a better hunting partner than most guys I know. She tends to talk a lot when she gets sleepy but I don't mind that as long as I can hear the hounds. God only knows where I would be now if not for his grace, her, and our 3 girls.

Croatankid, You know full well what I mean! The pines were about ten feet tall and full of briars and reeds.

Mine will go at times, very few. She has been and sat in the truck and went into the woods. She really would rather stay home, and that's fine too. I normally hunt by myself. Its peaceful for us both that way. I can say this about her, she will never say a word about going hunting. Anytime and any kind I want to do is fine by her. In turn, she gets to "junk" shop til she drops. By the way, I never say a word about that, and I don't have to go. I am sure a lucky man in that fact. I hate Junk shopping.

BK, my wife went with me all the time. She even went to competition hunts, and she was a much better handler than me too. She even had her own dog.

Oh by the way BK stands for before kids. Now, she absolutely refuses to go with me. She says why should she go and get cold when she can read a good book all warm and cozy.

Now my old stand by line doesn't even work any more. "But, babe, you look so sexy in a pair if hip boots!"

Go figure!

Actually Bill, no I had no idea it was because of the hike through a pine thicket. I didn't know she even went into a thicket. I understand now and I must say, she must be a tough one to do it one time.
My wife is going tonight though she isn't planning of going into the woods.

Mine went hunting with me all the time we were dating, It didn't matter, deer, coon, rabbit squirrel. Once she got the ring on her finger the hunting is over. That was 25 years ago. I wish she would go once in a while. I could use another handler.

took mine to st jude this year all was great until we got in the backwaters of KY lake shortly after seeing a snake she had a gar slap her boot and we were still about 200 ys from land..... I never knew a 5ft 3 blonde could walk on water until that night..... hopefully she will decide to go again one day had a lot of fun with her with me that weekend

Posted by croatankid on 10-27-2015 04:53 AM:

wow, 200 yrds to land. Were you wearing chaps to stay dry or just wading? How deep was the water? I don't mind wading as long as the water doesn't get above my wading chaps and with a 29" inseam, that doesn't take long.

The wife went about three or four times with me the first time she went in a pair of dollar store tennis shoes got to a creek she wouldn't cross so I left her and went to the hounds. After that I bought her some Hip boots and on the next hunt she steped in a stump hole and filled a boot full of water. That was it for her.
