concrete vs elevated dog kennels?
I'm in the process of building new kennels and want to know which is better ive always had concrete but elevated kennels dont seem bad, for people that have them what are the goods and bad on them and how do you keep underneath clean I wouldn't want them too high in the air
Above ground kennels are the best way to keep a dog in my opinion. I have seen every kind of setup there is but I will never again use anything other than above ground kennels. Dogs are cleaner and less flea problems. PM me your phone number and I will text you some pictures of mine that I built. I seperate each of them and have concrete under them. Works great and dogs do very well in them.
Have both and love above ground way better! Talk to toe cutter on here hes got a ton of info on them
I never liked concrete. in the old days I used sand over lime..then went to elevated and never looked back. I liked the composite decking over native or treated lumber though

How elevated do you have your kennels and how do you clean under them
Mine are only 1 1/2 ft off ground i use a dirt rake and shovel to clean up but am thinking of using the slanted metal roofing to hose down

ABOVE GROUND
THE ONLY WAY TO GO ,EASYER TO CLEAN WITH THE POOP DECK ON THE BOTTOM ,,WOULD USE NO OTHER ,I HAD STATE OF THE ART KENNELS ON CONCRETE BUT SWITCHED TO THESE

HAVE A BLESSED ONE ,,,RON

I guess this is an area where im just old fashioned, I sure think a dog is healthier and happier on a good stout 12' chain with a good dry dogbox.
They definatly maintain better muscletone
their feet and nails stay in better shape
Its a whole bunch cheaper.

Guess I'm in the minority. I like concrete. It's simple and last forever and by far the easiest to clean

Re: Concrete.....
We have always had Concrete. We just Turn Dogs out Once or Twice a day in dog yard. Bleach Kennels every month. We have our dog houses built attached to backside of kennels and a wooden deck in front of house. Dogs mostly stay on decks in summer. I would not Chain mine unless they were fenced in.
Good Luck with your Kennels

Getting ready to pour a slab and lay concrete block and put a roof on.

I have my dogs on concrete. But if I had to do it over again I just build a big deck out of treated lumber and put the kennes on that. The elevated floor with the wood is a lot drier than the concrete .....concrete always little wet it seems like

Seems concrete would be hard on their joints. Sure is hard on mine after walking and standing on it all day.
Above ground
I have two above ground kennel and use a product called Kennel-Tuff got the flooring. It is plastic an does not absorb any smell. Very pleased.

Above ground kennel

These have 3 inch gap at the bottom that you can slide a rake under the bottom so that you don't have to go in the pen to clean it. Rake it out daily and wash down once or twice a week.

i put those cement 12x12 stepping stones for the floor in my kennel. Cleaning is a breeze. Took me 264 stones...lol
I have above ground, you can often find scrap composite decking on Craig's list. This is the best flooring. After building a couple, I prefer narrower gaps over wider, a pups foot will fall through and twist there hips because they forget to pay attention.
I also think a fenced in play area around the kennels is often overlooked. I let mine run on all off hunting days while cleaning and feeding. This helps tremendously with barking and chewing, and I believe improves there quality of life greatly.
